Most cigar makers build for cigar smokers and leave blunt smokers to adapt. Brothers Broadleaf flips that script. The Tampa, Florida, company describes itself as "the first premium, hand-rolled cigar company crafting cigars for blunt smokers," and everything it sells is built around that one audience.
The pitch on the brand's homepage is blunt, in every sense: "Create the highest quality blunt wrap. We hand roll every cigar using premium tobacco." Here is who is behind it, what the lineup looks like as of September 2026, and why a family name out of Ybor City's cigar history ended up making leaf for the rolling crowd.
Who started Brothers Broadleaf
According to the brand's About Us page, Brothers Broadleaf was founded in 2019 by brothers Paxton and Dawson, fourth-generation cigar makers. The origin story on that page is short and direct: "Fed up with the lack of quality leaves available to blunt smokers, the Brothers knew the only way to achieve perfection was to go back to the basics and forego the mass production cigar machines."
That means hand rolling instead of machine production, plus what the company calls a quality control inspection team checking the product before it ships. The two product lines carry the founders' names: Paxton's Pearls and Dawson's Dudz. Both names are registered trademarks on the brand's own listings.
Press coverage fills in the family name. Herb.co, writing in January 2023, identified the founders as Dawson and Paxton Newman and also dated the company to 2019. A September 2022 profile by USF's student newsroom, NEWZROOM, called them sons of Bobby Newman and descendants of Julius Caesar Newman, and put the start of the business in 2020. The brand's own site says 2019, and that is the date we go with.
A family name from Cigar City
Tampa's cigar history runs deep, and the Newman name sits in the middle of it. Julius Caesar Newman founded the J.C. Newman Cigar Co. in 1895, according to the company's El Reloj page. Its factory, El Reloj, went up in Ybor City in 1910, and the company says that of Tampa's 150 cigar factories, El Reloj is the last one still operating.
J.C. Newman describes itself as four generations of family ownership. The 2022 NEWZROOM profile placed Dawson and Paxton in that fourth generation and quoted Dawson on what the work means to him: "For me it means a lot, it's family tradition. My grandfather used to grow tobacco."
Brothers Broadleaf runs as its own brand with its own Tampa address, 6604 Harney Road, Suite F. What it carries over from the family business is the craft itself: whole tobacco leaf, rolled by hand, now pointed squarely at blunt smokers.
The lineup
The brand's FAQ breaks the range down by leaf. Broadleaf is dark and thick. Havana is dark with medium thickness. Dudz are light and thin. Every line is hand-rolled, and every line is packed for the same end use. Prices below are as listed on brothersbroadleaf.com on September 26, 2026.
Paxton's Pearls Broadleaf
The flagship. The product page says the Broadleaf Pearls are "rolled using the highest quality tobacco grown in Connecticut" and calls the leaf "dark, thick and robust," made for smokers who want a wrap that is "heavy and bold." A pack of 5 runs $10, and a box of eight 5-packs, 40 cigars in total, runs $80. Herb.co called the Pearls 5-pack the brand's bestseller in January 2023.
Paxton's Pearls Havana
The Havana version swaps in Cuban-seed tobacco grown in Ecuador, per its product listing, which describes the leaf as "dark, silky" and pitches it to smokers who want "a perfect dark leaf" without the full thickness of the Broadleaf. A pack of 5 is listed at $9.40, and a box of eight 5-packs at $75.20.
Dawson's Dudz
Dudz go the other direction and use the lighter part of the tobacco leaf. The product copy leans into it: "For far too long, light leaves have been viewed as bad. Dawson's Dudz will change your mind." Dudz come in the widest spread of formats: singles at $1.99, a pack of 5 at $7.50, a bundle of 20 at $29.99, and a box of eight 5-packs at $60.
Barrel Series and limited jars
The Barrel Series comes in 10-packs across all three leaf types: $22.99 for the original, $20.99 for Havana and $16.99 for Dudz. An April 2025 episode of the podcast First Smoke of the Day billed the line as "whiskey barrel blunts" in its episode title. The shop also lists Paxton's Pearls Luna and Sol jars of 8 at $79.99 each, both marked out of stock at the time of writing.
Why Connecticut broadleaf
The brand name points straight at its leaf. Connecticut broadleaf comes out of the Connecticut River Valley, and according to Holt's Cigar 101 guide to the leaf, it was the only wrapper variety grown there until around 1900, when Connecticut Shade arrived. Broadleaf is grown in full sun, and the whole plant is stalk cut at harvest.
Holt's describes the plant as short and bushy with very wide leaves that cure to a notably dark color, and says it is prized for Maduro-wrapped cigars. It is also hard to work with: by Holt's count, only about 60% of plants yield usable premium wrapper leaves. That combination of thick, dark, wide leaf is the same set of traits blunt smokers go looking for when they pick a wrap.
How the cigars are built
Split a Brothers Broadleaf cigar and there is more than one leaf inside. The FAQ says the inner leaf in each cigar is meant to be a binder, and that it can be smoked too. In the April 2025 First Smoke of the Day conversation, the brothers talked about using that extra inner leaf with zero binding agents, a detail the episode description credits to their mother.
The same episode description says the brothers personally inspect every leaf that gets wrapped and packaged, and that they have visited tobacco farms in Ecuador, Colombia and Nicaragua. Their About Us page backs up the hand-rolled, inspected-before-it-ships approach, even if it does not name specific farms or suppliers.
Freshness is the other part of the build. According to the FAQ, the website restocks with a fresh batch of Pearls, Dudz and Barrel Series every 21 days. The packs and bags carry a foil liner, and the brand says that liner keeps the cigars fresh for several years as long as the pack is resealed after each use.
Glue, ashtrays and the rest of the kit
Brothers Broadleaf sells a few tools around the leaf. The Blunt Glue Tube, $7.99, is described on its product page as a mix of cellulose powder and purified water, about 20 applications per tube with a resealable cap. Because it is all-natural, the brand recommends freezing it and says it cannot guarantee quality past three months after purchase.
The Broadleaf Ashtray, $35, comes in Natural or Maduro finishes, named after the tobacco shades that inspired the brand. The shop also carries a plastic stash grinder and a "Smoke More Blunts" hat. How to buy
The brand sells direct from its site. Its shipping policy says orders go out via USPS, that it does not ship to Hawaii, Utah or South Dakota, and that express 1–2 day shipping is available for an extra fee. The FAQ says it ships internationally to select countries but currently cannot ship to Australia, Canada or the EU.
Subscriptions are an option on the core packs and boxes, with delivery every three weeks. Shops that want to carry the product can apply through the brand's wholesale and retail applications. Locals can skip shipping entirely: the FAQ invites shoppers to stop by the Harney Road office Monday through Friday, 9 to 5, and says the office is always in stock.
Where it fits in rolling culture
Most of the rolling aisle is paper, hemp and cones, and our breakdown of the top rolling paper brands covers that side of the shelf. Brothers Broadleaf sits somewhere else. It is a cigar maker that treats blunt smokers as its core customer rather than an afterthought, and it keeps its Pearls and Dudz 5-packs at $10 or less.
That focus shows up in the details. Leaf grades are explained in plain terms, packs are sized for people who roll often, and the accessories are there to finish the job rather than pad the catalog.
