Reggae on the River is moving into early summer for 2027. The Mateel Community Center has announced June 25–27 at County Line Ranch in Piercy, along the Eel River. For anyone thinking about the trip, those dates are the first detail to save. The artist lineup is still to come.
The organizer has already published details that affect a camping and travel plan. The festival’s current pages explain the difference between admission, camping, parking and VIP access. They also describe a rocky river-bar campsite, limited parking and details that remain unfinished. Read those together before treating one ticket as a complete weekend plan.
This guide reflects the organizer’s information checked on October 31, 2026. It is an early planning picture, not a final arrival guide. The official 2027 festival page establishes the dates and setting; the organizer’s updates should settle any later changes.
Start with the new June dates
The 38th edition is scheduled for three days in late June. That is a change from the August timing of the 2026 festival. Someone returning from a previous year should begin with the new calendar, rather than reusing last summer’s travel arrangements or assuming the same seasonal conditions.
The venue is County Line Ranch in Piercy, in the southern Humboldt area. This is a trip built around a rural festival site. Your sleeping arrangements and arrival plan deserve attention alongside the music, particularly if you are deciding between camping and staying elsewhere.
The organizer’s announcement leaves the lineup for a later reveal. Names on an older poster do not belong on a 2027 itinerary. The same applies to archival stage photographs: they show the festival’s history, not a booking announcement.
For a wider view of the calendar, the High Rise events directory separates festivals, conferences and other gatherings. That distinction matters here. Reggae on the River is a multi-day music and camping commitment, with a different set of practical questions from an evening event.

The Mateel connection gives the weekend its context
The festival’s own history traces its beginning to 1984, when a fundraiser helped rebuild the Mateel Community Center after a fire destroyed its earlier home. That local purpose remains part of the event’s identity. The organizer describes Reggae on the River as a benefit for the community center.
The Mateel’s work extends beyond the festival. Its description includes arts, educational programs and social services, with music, theatre and other creative activity among its interests. That explains why the organization’s name belongs beside the event’s name, rather than appearing only in the fine print.
The official history also places Northern California cannabis culture alongside Jamaican reggae in the festival’s development. That cultural relationship does not establish the current rules for sales or consumption. This guide does not infer a 2027 cannabis marketplace from a previous edition or from the event’s reputation.
For a different expression of music and cannabis culture, our Puffcon history follows a Los Angeles gathering built around a hardware community. The comparison is useful because the organizing story changes the event. A riverside benefit and an urban block party ask different things of a visitor.
Choose admission, then solve sleeping and parking
Start with the ticket for the days you intend to attend. Then work through where you will sleep and where your vehicle will go. The official FAQ treats those as separate questions, and your plan should too.
The current 2027 VIP description includes a backstage lounge, a dedicated viewing area and a sponsor swag bag. It explicitly does not create VIP parking or camping. If those are the benefits you need, adding VIP alone will not solve the problem.
The parking guidance is equally specific: availability is limited, spaces are assigned first come, first served, and a pass does not guarantee parking on the main festival site. The organizer describes overflow areas with shuttle service when those areas are in use. Build arrival time around that possibility.
A weekend general-admission parking pass also does not include unrestricted vehicle re-entry. The FAQ says leaving and returning brings another parking fee. That makes a casual plan to drive out repeatedly for supplies worth reconsidering before the weekend begins.
If camping is not your preference, use the organizer’s accommodations information and verify transport for the place you choose. Still comparing California music weekends? The California Roots 2027 listing is another place to begin that search, with its own venue and travel requirements.
Plan for the river bar as it is
The organizer describes general-admission camping as a river-bar area with small rocks, uneven ground and no shade. That is concrete information for packing and choosing equipment. A tent that worked on a lawn may be only one part of what you need here.
Shade, suitable footwear, layered clothing and a light for moving after dark deserve space in the plan. These are practical responses to the site description, not a weather forecast for June 2027. Check the forecast and the final festival guidance nearer departure.
The FAQ requires campers to remain at least 50 feet from the water’s edge, with the boundary marked on site. Choosing a riverside festival does not mean choosing any spot beside the water. Follow the marked camping areas and leave room for the site’s environmental rules.
Cooking and power arrangements have their own limits. The current rules prohibit fires and charcoal devices, and they do not allow generators in general-admission camping. The organizer permits contained propane camp stoves. Check the final rules before packing equipment that depends on an exception.
Plan for the return journey as carefully as the arrival. Broken camp equipment still has to leave with you. The festival asks visitors to pack out what they bring, including damaged tents and chairs, rather than leaving the cleanup to the river bar or the crew.
An RV pass is not a campsite expansion
The RV guidance describes dry camping, without hookups. It gives a maximum length of 35 feet including the towing vehicle. That combined measurement matters: the trailer alone is not the number to compare with the stated limit.
The organizer also says the RV area has no space for friends’ tents or an extended outdoor setup. Anyone expecting to add a kitchen, a large canopy or extra sleeping space beside the vehicle should resolve that expectation before choosing the ticket.
Groups hoping to park RVs together are told to arrive together. The FAQ does not permit saving spaces. Coordinate the journey around that condition, and have a fallback meeting plan if vehicles become separated along the way.
Premium car camping is described differently: a standard vehicle up to 20 feet long and a ten-by-ten-foot tent area. Trailers and RVs are excluded from that option. Read the exact category instead of treating every vehicle-based camping pass as interchangeable.
Keep access and communications in the plan
The current FAQ says cell service can be unreliable. It also says each admission ticket and add-on has its own QR code. Once those codes arrive, keep the individual codes accessible offline, rather than assuming one screenshot or a live connection will cover the whole booking.
Accessibility planning should happen before arrival. The organizer lists an accessibility contact and describes designated parking, while its accessibility form is still marked as forthcoming. Ask about your specific requirements through the official route and retain the response with your travel information.
The parking section expressly prohibits walking along Highway 101. Use the transport arrangements provided for the festival. The wider shuttle schedule and locations remain pending, even though the FAQ describes how overflow parking shuttles will operate.
The river is another part of the setting that needs current information. The organizer says there are no lifeguards and that conditions may restrict access. Follow the signs and instructions in place during the event; an inviting archival photograph cannot tell you what the water will be like that weekend.
What is still worth waiting for
The lineup, fuller shuttle information and several service details remain outstanding. If a particular artist, accommodation connection or accessibility arrangement determines whether you can attend, wait for that answer before making an assumption. An announced date is useful, but it does not answer every travel question.
Before the next announcement, save the June dates, choose the kind of sleeping arrangement you can manage, read the matching parking rules and keep a list of unresolved details. That leaves the music announcement to do its own job, without asking it to solve the rest of the weekend.
