Today marks the 6 year anniversary of The High Rise Co!
Thanks to everyone has been rocking with us these last few years it has been a super fun and unbelievable ride thus far!
I started this brand 6 years ago with $1,500 I saved up from teaching skate lessons and had absolutely no idea what I was doing. The first run was maybe 150 t-shirt and some stickers. After going door to door and getting creative I sold most of the tees and invested that money into hats and hoodies, I sold that and invested into the next batch and so on and so forth. Each collection was filled with tons of mistakes and learning lessons - every month I was learning more and more and correcting the past mistakes. When things started growing my kitchen was the production room and my living room was fulfillment. Once we outgrew that we partnered with a local skate shop and moved into the back office - now we could sell stuff out of the front and work in the back, this was a huge mistake in hindsight and we almost lost half of our business with shady partners. Another lesson learned and another door opened when we had to get out of there and in to our own spot. That spot was maybe 1,000 sq feet and quickly was filled with product everywhere - shortly after we decided we needed more traffic to the site.
This is where HighRiseTV was born - A 420 friendly YouTube channel where we make cool 420 videos and shows. Within 6 months we amassed 100k subscribers and millions of views - now our media company was born just like that. We did a world record hotbox, crazy smoking challenges, and introduced Mr. Weedy, 2 Girls, 1 Bong and other original shows, this kind of led us down a whole new world of YouTube and content creation.
From there we moved into our next space a 3,000 sq ft warehouse where we started filming tons of videos and gained some attention in the cannabis industry for our videos and channel. Now we were making videos for other 420 brands, reviewing strains and products and using our marketing knowledge to the best of our ability - all while driving traffic to the clothing brand - a win win situation. This helped us get into large retailers and drive up our e-commerce sales dramatically. Now we needed to keep up with the production and orders - time to buy our own machines.
Again with no experience I bought an embroidery machine, teamed up with a screen print business and now we were manufacturing all of our own goods in-house to keep up with the demand. The warehouse started filling up quick and it was time to find a bigger newer location.
A few months before moving out I started dabbling with paid advertising using Social Media. I was always pretty marketing savvy, but even I was not expecting what was going to happen next.
After only a month using these ads we were able to drive 4x6 return on all our Adspend boom just like that sales doubled, followers doubled and we were off to the races again. Now the volume coming in was pretty over-whelming... and we had to deal with the growing pains of production, limited space, too many orders, long nights and lots of craziness.
That led us to our latest location, a 10,000 sq foot space with multiple embroidery machines, screen printing machines, full video studio and fulfillment center and multiple offices!
Our latest projects include "The Doobie Talk" podcast - our podcast featuring myself (Erin) and our Media Director and pro skateboarder Derek Fukuhara - we try to relay all the lessons and knowledge we learned over the last 6 years building businesses, growing accounts and pages, driving traffic, sales, etc... We also try to feature other cool companies and entrepreneurs and get their lessons and value as well. In addition we have a new partnership with Leafly where we will be producing tons of awesome 420 videos and content for some of the dopest brands in the industry.
It has been an amazing 6 years years and I'd just like to say THANK YOU to each and every one of you guys who have supported us in any way! Hopefully this will inspire someone else to start their own brand or company - shit if I can do it anyone can.
Keep Pushing, Keep Rising... heres to another 6!
