At a glance

Bear Humboldt, originally Bear Extraction House, is an Arcata-based cannabis manufacturer and brand operator founded by Humboldt County natives Casey Eliason and Taylor Lefevre. It develops and distributes concentrate labels including URSA Extracts and WOX while offering extraction and packaged-goods services to California cultivators.

Founders and the extraction-house idea

Eliason and Lefevre came from Humboldt cultivation and began planning before adult-use legalization for a physical hub where local farmers, extractors and manufacturers could develop products together. The resulting Bear Extraction House combined regional sourcing with laboratory-style process development and later became the broader Bear Humboldt house of brands.

The founding concept was infrastructure as much as branding: preserve value for Humboldt flower by processing it locally, support small cultivators and create finished products that could enter licensed statewide distribution.

URSA and WOX

URSA Extracts is Bear’s flagship premium line. It centers on single-strain, fresh-frozen whole flower and currently sells fully ceramic 510 live-resin cartridges, NOVA vapes, live resin, badder and live rosin formats. Product vault pages publish batch cannabinoid and terpene data with downloadable certificates of analysis.

WOX is the house’s more subculture-facing live-resin label, also built around small-batch, single-strain fresh-frozen material. Bear’s company profile additionally advertises solventless and hydrocarbon toll processing, cold-cure rosin, liquid rosin, live resin and complete filling, labeling and compliance services for partner farms or brands.

Process and innovation claims

Bear says it was first to market with a full-spectrum live-resin cartridge, a fully ceramic live-resin cart and a low-temperature battery designed to protect terpenes. Those are first-party innovation claims and should remain attributed unless patent or dated-market evidence independently establishes priority.

The better-documented process is straightforward: fresh whole flower is frozen after harvest, cannabinoids and terpenes are extracted in selected batches, and the same-strain terpene and cannabinoid fractions are recombined for URSA live resin. URSA states its cartridges contain no distillate or external flavor additives.

Awards and notable products

URSA’s Humboldt Jack live-resin cartridge won first place at the 2022 Emerald Cup, and Modified Grapes live badder placed third, according to a contemporaneous post from the Bear team. The product remains documented in URSA’s vault with batch data and a downloadable COA.

North Coast Journal also listed Bear Humboldt among Humboldt County’s medal winners at the 2024 California State Fair competition. Because the reviewed article does not identify Bear’s exact product or medal, the profile does not manufacture a category or placement.

Community and regional role

Humboldt County Growers Alliance reports connect Bear Extraction House with Project Humboldt Thrive and support for the Mateel Community Center and Eel River Recovery Project. The company has also participated in regional efforts to market licensed Humboldt cannabis and keep more processing value in the county.

Licensing and stores

Bear Humboldt lists its facility at 5550 West End Road in Arcata and California distribution license C11-0001975-LIC. URSA and WOX products are sold through licensed California dispensaries rather than a Bear-owned retail chain. Live retailer menus show current carts and concentrates, but individual strain inventory is batch-driven and changes quickly.

The High Rise read

Bear Humboldt is best understood as the manufacturing layer behind recognizable extract brands. Its founders, Arcata facility, URSA and WOX architecture, toll services, batch vaults, awards and community work give the profile depth. The page should distinguish documented process from “first-ever” claims and brand-level awards from individual product results.

What to verify before buying

Check the exact package or model for current specifications, ingredients or materials, potency or test data where relevant, warnings, warranty terms and local legal restrictions. Retail listings can outlive discontinued or reformulated products.
