FloraCal Farms is a premium cannabis brand founded in Sonoma County by husband-and-wife cultivators Drew and Karen Duval. The company’s path runs from a small controlled-environment flower operation to a 2018 sale to Origin House and, after Cresco Labs acquired Origin House in 2020, a multistate brand spanning flower, concentrates, vapes and edibles.
Drew and Karen Duval
Drew and Karen began FloraCal as a husband-and-wife cultivation business. Profiles describe Drew designing small grow rooms to control individual environments and Karen sharing operational leadership. The founders later remained involved through the Origin House transition; this origin should not be replaced with Cresco’s corporate founders.
Sonoma cultivation model
FloraCal’s early identity came from Sonoma County indoor flower, selected genetics and room-by-room environmental control. The brand positions products around flower structure and terpene profiles rather than volume. Those quality terms are brand standards, while harvest freshness, chemistry and condition remain batch-specific.
The 2018 sale
Drew and Karen sold FloraCal Farms to Origin House in 2018 in a cash-and-stock transaction reported at roughly $28 million. That changed ownership while preserving the brand. It is an acquisition milestone, not the founding date, and older pages describing FloraCal as independent need that distinction.
Cresco ownership
Cresco Labs completed its acquisition of Origin House on January 8, 2020. FloraCal consequently became part of Cresco’s national portfolio alongside Cresco, High Supply, Good News, Remedi and Mindy’s. Current production occurs through state-regulated operations, so a FloraCal product in Illinois or Michigan is not California flower shipped across state lines.
Flower
Premium flower remains the foundation. State menus have included cultivars such as Vanilla Cake and Kush Mints, but genetics and availability differ by market. A strain sold under the same brand in two states can come from different facilities and batches; the local label identifies the responsible licensee.
Concentrates and vapes
Cresco filings list FloraCal products in concentrates and vapes as well as flower. Solventless rosin, cartridges and other extract formats appear in selected markets. “FloraCal” describes the brand tier, not one universal extraction method, so consumers should verify whether a product is rosin, resin, distillate or another formulation.
Edibles
The portfolio also includes edibles in some states, including live-rosin gummies. Availability is jurisdiction-specific because edible rules and manufacturing licenses vary. A product announced in Michigan does not establish a California or Illinois release.
Verified competition example
Cresco reported that FloraCal Pink Lemonade Live Rosin Gummies won first place in the adult-use Non-Solvent Gummies category at the 2023 High Times Michigan People’s Choice Cannabis Cup. High Times coverage also names FloraCal among prior Illinois flower and concentrate winners, but a full brandwide ledger was not reconciled here.
Where to verify products. Cresco’s filings show FloraCal across multiple regulated states, but the exact footprint and lineup change. Use the relevant state regulator and licensed dispensary menu, then check package data for cultivator or manufacturer, batch and testing. Awards from one market or product should not be generalized to every FloraCal item.
