Galaxy Labs is an Illinois craft cannabis brand out of Richton Park, growing small-batch indoor flower with a slow cure that treats drying as part of the craft rather than an afterthought. It is independent, social-equity licensed, and built around one line: out there from here.
Who's Behind It
Galaxy Labs LLC was founded in 2020 by Rick and Michelle Ringold, a husband-and-wife team from Illinois who grew up in areas hit hardest by the war on drugs. They became the first independent social-equity craft grower to go live in the state, and more than 96% of the company is minority- and women-owned.
That breakdown runs 82.5% Black-owned, 51% veteran-owned, 33.25% women-owned and 11% Hispanic-owned. The grow marked its first full year of operation in February 2025, which makes Galaxy one of the younger names on Illinois shelves, and an independent one rather than a multi-state operator's side project.
The Cure Is The Point
The whole pitch lives in the post-harvest work. Galaxy dries for 10 to 14 days with no flash drying, then cures in airtight containers with moisture-controlled processing before anything gets packaged. That is the unglamorous stretch of craft flower most operations rush, and it is the part that decides whether a jar still smells like anything by the time you open it.
Everything comes out of a controlled-environment indoor facility running proprietary genetics and high-density racking. Small strategic harvests instead of shelf-filling volume, aimed at expressing the full potential of a cultivar rather than chasing a number on a label.
What's On The Shelf
The lineup is flower-forward and deliberately narrow: eighths of premium flower, one-gram ground-flower prerolls, a five-pack of half-gram prerolls, and a seven-gram kief-infused shake for anyone who wants the price per gram without the bag appeal.
The strain rotation leans loud and dessert-heavy, with cuts like Cap Junky, Permanent Marker, Gary Payton, Gelato 41, Apricot Chem, Blueberry Diesel, Sweet Tartz, Guava Bars, Dante's Inferno and a house-named Supernova. Six new strains landed in May 2025.
They have also stepped outside the jar. A collaboration with Spliff Society put Galaxy's craft flower into one-gram tobacco-free botanical cones, which is a more interesting swing than the usual terpene-sprayed preroll.
Built In Richton Park
Galaxy put its facility in Richton Park's town center rather than an anonymous industrial strip, and the build was projected to create more than 45 jobs. The stated mandate is economic empowerment in a disproportionately impacted area through training, hiring and development.
They work with Olive-Harvey College's cannabis studies program on curriculum advisory, donated equipment and supplies, guest presentations and hands-on sessions with students, plus community-supported agriculture programs and targeted hiring events. It reads less like a line item and more like people building where they are from.

The High Rise Read
Galaxy is a cure-first brand, and that is the right thing to build a craft reputation on in a state where plenty of flower arrives dry and only loud on the label. Buy it for terp retention and the way it burns, not for the percentage on the sticker.
The genetics list is competitive without reading like a copy of everyone else's menu, and the ownership story is genuinely rare in Illinois instead of an angle bolted on afterward. If the consistency holds as they scale, this is a name worth tracking.
