Medterra is a hemp wellness company based in Irvine, California, founded in 2017 by Jay Hartenbach and JP Larsen. It sells CBD and hemp-derived THC products direct to consumers, covering gummies, tinctures, capsules, topicals, drinkables and pet products, organised by labelled cannabinoid content rather than by strain.

Founding and leadership

Hartenbach and Larsen started the company in 2017 and built it into a national direct-to-consumer brand. In 2021 Medterra appointed Gregory Reeder chief executive, with Hartenbach moving to chairman of the board and chief innovation officer.

Three spectrum categories

Medterra sorts its cannabinoid products into CBD isolate, broad spectrum and full spectrum. Isolate formulas carry CBD without other cannabinoids. Broad spectrum keeps additional hemp compounds while being marketed as THC-free. Full spectrum formulas contain hemp-derived THC, and the store runs a separate high-potency tier at 5 mg of THC and above.

The catalog

Gummies are the most visible part of the line, sold under names including Sound Asleep, Deep Sleep, Sleep Tight, Daily Delight, Extra Delight, Mood Boost, Unwind and Max Relief. Tinctures, capsules and topicals run alongside them, among them the Daily Relief CBD Isolate Oil and Capsules and the Pain Relief Cream. The pet range includes a Daily Relief Pet CBD Tincture.

Hemp sourcing and testing

Medterra states that its hemp is grown in the USA and that its products are third-party tested for purity and potency, with certificates of analysis published through the storefront. It is U.S. Hemp Authority certified, and was among the first thirteen companies to receive that seal when the program announced its inaugural awards on 1 March 2019.

The Splash Beverage letter of intent

Splash Beverage Group signed a non-binding letter of intent to acquire and merge with Medterra in 2026. Splash disclosed that the letter expired on 4 May 2026 without execution of a definitive agreement, and that it has since continued evaluating other strategic opportunities in the cannabinoid wellness sector.
