Oakland Extracts is a POC-owned California concentrate company founded in 2013 by Terryn Buxton and Aaron Tran. Buxton is chief executive and came up through cultivation; Tran worked as a chef and is a Navy veteran. The two met in 2009 while working at a dispensary, and built a hash brand around small-farm material, minimal processing and prices set for their own city. The company markets itself as handcrafted extracts made in Oakland — "Terps from the Town."
From Harborside to their own brand
Both founders worked at Harborside in Oakland before starting the company. Its stated philosophy is "quality over quantity, people over profits, culture over commerce," and the mission it publishes is that "our Town should have access to great quality hash at a price we can all afford."
Small-farm sourcing
Oakland Extracts says every product begins with high-quality starting material from small, local farms, run as single-source production with no added terpenoids, THC or flavorings. Fresh-frozen flower feeds the live line, while cured material supports the lower-priced formats.
Cookie Crumble
Cookie Crumble is the signature product: wax formed into one-gram wafers built to crumble into a joint, blunt or bowl. The format is the pitch — a concentrate that works without dedicated dab hardware.
The concentrate line
The cured concentrates are described by the company as potent, affordable and made with minimal CRC. Live resin is made with minimal processing and no CRC filtering, and the company also produces a CRC-free live badder. Live resin vape cartridges are billed as 100% uncut live resin, with no distillate, botanical terpenes, additives or flavorings. Live Diamonds are THCA crystals finished with added terpenes for flavor.
Veterans and community work
Buxton and Tran funded the startup costs of Operation EVAC, a veterans' organization that launched on Memorial Day 2016. Oakland Extracts also names work with equity businesses and veterans' service organizations among its community priorities.
