Iverson

Type: hybrid

Iverson '01 is Viola's F1 Durban x Gushers x Runtz hybrid, grown at Viola Cultivation in Detroit and released through the company's collaboration with Allen Iverson. The '01 marks his NBA MVP season. Viola lists it as indica-dominant.

Where It Comes From

Iverson '01 launched in Michigan in spring 2022 as the second entry in Viola's Iverson Collection, and it sold out on its first run. Allen Iverson and Al Harrington appeared at Michigan dispensaries to meet customers around the drop.

The strain went out through nine retailers across the state, including 3Fifteen, Curaleaf, Cannavista, Puff Cannabis, Pure Options, Skymint, Liv Cannabis, The New Standard, and Five & Dime, and stayed on shelves through that summer.

The collection is built on dates. Iverson '96 came first, named for the year Iverson was drafted. Iverson '01 followed, named for 2001, the season he was named league MVP. Two releases, two milestones, two different plants.

The Cross

Viola is the brand and the cultivator. The company states the genetics as F1 Durban x Gushers x Runtz and lists the strain as an indica-dominant hybrid grown locally in Detroit.

The parents are worth separating. Runtz is well established, a Zkittlez x Gelato cross assembled in Los Angeles around 2016 and 2017. Gushers is documented as Gelato #41 x Triangle Kush. F1 Durban is the least documented of the three, and nothing published pins it down further.

Visually, Viola calls it exceptionally frosty with dark purple shading. Packaged flower runs purple-hued and well trimmed, six to ten pieces per bag in the brand's purple packaging.

No THC or terpene percentages accompany the official release. Retail listings quoting figures in the high twenties or above are describing individual batches, not the cultivar as a whole.

What It Left Behind

No competition placements. The footprint here is cultural and commercial: a Hall of Fame guard's name on a Detroit-grown release that sold out its first run and drew real coverage in the Michigan market.

Viola is one of the more visible Black-owned operators in legal cannabis, and the Iverson Collection is a clear example of an athlete partnership built around specific biography, draft year and MVP year, rather than a logo slapped on a jar.

The High Rise Take

Iverson '01 is Viola's F1 Durban x Gushers x Runtz: a Detroit-grown, purple-shaded, resin-heavy release with a name that means something specific. Buy it on the batch panel and the brand, not on the number.
