Blue River Terps is a cannabis intellectual-property and product-development company founded by Tony Verzura. Launched in 2015 around cannabis-derived terpenes, it became known for solventless live rosin, rosin vapes, specialty edibles and formulations licensed to operators in different markets. Blue River states explicitly that it does not directly manufacture, distribute or retail its branded cannabis products.

Verzura entered the legacy cannabis market in the 1990s and built Blue River after years of extraction and formulation work. The company says it was the first legal-market brand to introduce cannabis-derived terpenes in 2015 and helped popularize “terps” as a consumer term. That priority claim is first-party and should remain attributed unless independently dated patent and market records establish it.
Blue River credits Verzura with more than 25 years of industry experience, over 85 personal awards and five U.S. patents in extraction and formulation.
What the company actually does
Blue River develops formulations, processes, trademarks and technical know-how, then works with licensed local manufacturers. That explains why product can appear under different operators in California, Florida, Massachusetts, Washington, New Jersey and Canada without one Blue River-owned factory or store network.
The model also makes collaborator credit essential. Award entries often list Blue River alongside growers, hash makers, hardware companies or market licensees. A win belongs to the submitted product and team, not automatically to every product sold under the logo.
Products and technology
The portfolio includes live rosin concentrates, 510 cartridges, all-in-one vapes, Flan and Jelly textures, Pioca and Ampersand. Pioca is a limited artist series developed with A$AP P using selected 90-micron material from early washes and mechanical separation to create pearl- or crystal-like texture. Published purity ranges are specifications claimed by Blue River, not universal results for every batch.
Ampersand is a rosin-derived oral-concentrate platform offered in powders, pouches, dissolvable tablets, capsules and drink mixes. Blue River says production occurs in a U.S. FDA-registered cGMP facility with third-party testing. FDA facility registration does not mean FDA approval of the cannabis product or its health claims.
Awards with product-level context
The current awards page says Blue River has earned 66 awards since 2014 and presents selected results. Recent entries include first-place Fruity Pebbles Pioca and an all-in-one vape in 2025 with Method Washington and partners; first-place K Dynamite live rosin in 2024 with Impressed Massachusetts; and a first-place 2021 Jelly Sauce Cart with Fresh Baked and AVD.
In 2026, Banana Split × Orange Ztrawburst Pioca placed second in non-solvent with BEAR Labs California, Canyon Creek Farms and Tychee Farms, while Highly Original Ampersand placed first in non-gummy edibles with Mojo Botanica New Jersey. Those credits illustrate the licensed-collaboration model better than a naked trophy count.
Partnerships and cultural projects
Trulieve brought Blue River products to Florida; Cannara licensed Ampersand technology for Canada. Other projects have connected the company with Cookies and mushroom specialist Nammex, Pax and Thievery Corporation, A$AP P, chefs and vaporizer developers. Blue River’s current vision expands into media, education, events and a network linking cannabis with technology, music, agriculture and art.
Where to find it
Consumers buy locally manufactured Blue River products through licensed dispensaries listed by market, not from Blue River itself. Product availability, formulation and licensee change by jurisdiction. The package should identify the actual manufacturer and testing laboratory for the batch.
