At a glance
Futurola is an Amsterdam-born rolling-paper and pre-roll-equipment company founded in 1996 by siblings Evert and Yvonne Brandenburg. Its catalog serves both individual consumers and licensed manufacturers, ranging from papers and cone rollers to industrial shredders, Knockbox filling systems and finishing equipment.
Future Coffee Shop roots
The official timeline traces the family’s roots to Future Coffee Shop, opened near Amsterdam Central Station in 1984, and dates Futurola’s launch there to February 1996. Independent Dutch and trade histories identify brother-and-sister founders Evert and Yvonne Brandenburg, who had operated coffee shops and imported smoking accessories.
Consumer rolling products
Futurola’s original identity came from rolling papers, filter tips, pre-rolled cones and hand-rolling machines. The catalog now offers multiple paper, diameter and length combinations, including standard, slim, king, Fatboy and party formats. Material and size should be matched to the intended use and local law.
Shredders
Pre-production equipment includes Mini, OG, Mega and Mega Plus shredders, with “Pro” variants, mix bags, screen barrels, whips and service tools. Shredding consistency affects downstream filling, but machine throughput and finished pre-roll quality still depend on material moisture, grind settings and operator process.
Knockbox systems
The Knockbox family fills groups of pre-rolled cones using a vibrating base, filling device, mix tray and controller. Current lines include original 50 and 100 models plus Pro 100, 300 and 500 systems. Futurola says the Knockbox 100 followed six years of testing and launched in April 2016.
Throughput claims
Futurola’s timeline contrasts roughly 100 hand-filled rolls in four to six labor hours with as many as 10,000 using Knockbox production in the same period. That is a manufacturer claim and likely assumes a complete workflow. Filling is only one stage; weighing, finishing, quality control, packaging and compliance add labor.
Dutch Crown and finishing
The Dutch Crown device and related accessories shape or finish the open end after filling. Cone loaders, unload stations, trays and different filling kits support specific cone geometries. Compatibility is not universal, so operators must verify cone length, tip size, diameter and machine configuration.
Collaborations
Futurola launched a Mike Tyson signature collection in 2019 with papers, rollers and terpene-infused wraps or cones. Its official timeline adds a Snoop Dogg/Gin & Juice collection in February 2025. These are accessory collaborations, not evidence that Futurola cultivates or sells cannabis.
Awards and claim limits
No reliable industry-award ledger was found on Futurola’s official site or in the reviewed histories, so no product trophies are claimed. Statements calling it Europe’s leading or top rolling brand are company positioning. Its documented milestones are the 1996 launch, 2016 Knockbox and continuing equipment expansion.
Commercial buying context. Production buyers should validate required throughput with their actual material, cone and staffing plan, then account for spare parts, cleaning, dust control, weights and local packaging rules. Consumers should confirm paper material and size. Futurola makes accessories and manufacturing equipment; legality depends on what is processed and where.
