Founders and 2014 origin
Brothers Colton Dukat and Dane Dukat co-founded Phoenician Engineering in 2014. Colton brought manufacturing operations experience and Dane brought aerospace engineering. A contemporary launch announcement also placed plant and soil science biologist Justin Cifelli and his Med Ag Ventures organization alongside the Dukats when the grinder debuted at a Denver cannabis trade show.
From engineering company to grinder brand
The founders set out to correct common grinder problems such as stuck threads, cross-threading, inefficient teeth, fixed screens, and awkward collection chambers. The retail identity later centered on Phoenician Grinders, while older reporting used Phoenician Engineering and Med Ag Ventures. Those names describe related stages and entities, not three unrelated grinder companies.
The threadless Quick Lock
The signature Quick Lock uses a triple-locking wedge mechanism that joins sections with a quarter turn instead of conventional screw threads. The design is intended to reduce binding, wear, and cross-threading. It is a mechanical distinction shoppers can inspect directly, unlike vague claims that a grinder is merely “premium.”
Teeth, holes, and grind path
Phoenician uses diametrically cut teeth arranged for a progressive shearing action. Inverse trapezoidal pass-through holes work with those teeth to move material into the lower chamber. The company says this geometry reduces friction and requires fewer lid rotations; that performance language comes from the manufacturer rather than a standardized independent grinder test.
Four-piece filtration system
Four-piece models add a stainless steel removable screen supported by a Fibonacci-spiral brace. An upgrade kit offers three micron sizes, allowing the screen specification to be changed instead of replacing the entire grinder. A beveled bottom chamber is shaped for collection with the company's small tool.
Two-piece and four-piece catalog
The current range includes PRO two-piece grinders in several sizes and PRO four-piece models in small, medium, and large formats. The flagship large four-piece version integrates a dispenser for 1¼-inch rolling papers and an ashtray. Limited-edition finishes, custom wholesale runs, replacement screens, bumper rings, and upgrade kits extend the core hardware line.
Manufacturing and patent claims
The brand markets its grinders as made in the United States from aerospace-grade aluminum with anodized finishes. In a 2020 interview, Colton Dukat said he and Dane had been awarded ten patents and were selling in more than fourteen countries. Those figures are dated founder statements; the reviewed sources did not provide a current patent-number ledger or country-by-country distributor list.
Warranty terms
Phoenician offers a limited lifetime warranty for grinders bought directly or through authorized resellers, with registration required within ninety days. Covered functional components include teeth, lock-notch couplings, magnet, and screen brace. Cosmetic wear, damaged screens, stripped screws, improper cleaning, physical damage, loss, and theft are excluded.

Phoenician's profile is strongest when treated as a product-engineering story: named founders, a documented 2014 launch, identifiable mechanisms, domestic manufacturing claims, a tiered catalog, and written warranty coverage. The quick lock and removable screen distinguish the tool materially.
