Santa Cruz Shredder is the herb grinder company a small group of friends started in Santa Cruz, California, in 2007. It machines anodized aluminum grinders around a patented eight-surface tooth, sells a hemp-composite line and the alloy Ripper series, and puts "Made in USA" on the brand.
The shop kept moving through September 2026. A 4PC Ripper Premium Bundle went live on September 11, and a Cheech and Chong All-In-One Hemp Rolling Kit followed on September 14.
A 2007 grinder project with surf and skate roots
The founders set out, in the company's words, to "redefine the world of herb grinders." They pulled from Santa Cruz's surf and skate culture and pitched the grinders as lifestyle pieces as much as tools.
Then Berner bought in. The rapper, who built the Cookies brand, announced in February 2017 that he had taken an ownership stake. "Check was cut and paperwork was signed!" he posted, as The Hotbox Magazine reported. The magazine credited Berner with introducing the world to the Cookie strain and the Cookies brand. The deal followed a joint Omni Nail release, and the company's about page says Berner "joined our ranks, propelling us to new heights."
The eight-surface tooth and the 7-Catch thread
The tooth is the pitch. Santa Cruz Shredder designed its patented eight-surface tooth in Siemens CAD software, and the company says the teeth cut multiple ways so the grind comes out "FLUFF TO PERFECTION." A NASA engineer is credited on the engineering side.
The threading is proprietary too. The 7-Catch design is built to let the pieces thread together without a fight. Lids close on neodymium diametrically magnetized cylindrical rare-earth magnets with a nickel-copper-nickel triple coating, and the company guarantees those magnets for life.
Four-piece models add a T304 micronic precision woven stainless steel screen. The aluminum bodies get aerospace anodizing for protection, and the wholesale about page signs off with "MADE TO LAST A LIFETIME!"
Aluminum, hemp and the Ripper
The catalog runs on three grinder families, plus the gear around them:
- Aluminum: two-, three- and four-piece grinders, jumbo models and special editions, with medium sizes starting at $35.50, $64.95 and $79.95.
- Hemp: two-, three- and four-piece grinders at $9.95, $14.95 and $19.95, plus trays, stash jars, J-tubes, dugouts and rolling kits.
- Ripper: alloy grinders with Resin Repel Technology, a T304 screen, jam-resistant threading and a rare-earth magnet. The four-piece medium measures 2 1/8 inches across and sells for $39.75.
- Apparel: caps, beanies, hoodies, joggers and T-shirts.
The hemp line carries a big claim. Santa Cruz Shredder calls it "the first hemp-based grinder on the market" and positions the composite as an alternative to plastic grinders.
The Ripper is the heavy-duty option. The company bills it as "built with a substantial feel, aggressive styling, and precision performance." The four-piece adds a dedicated sifting screen and collection chamber, and the branding is deep-embossed instead of printed with ink or decals.
Two aluminum staples have their own pages on The High Rise Co: the Large 4-Piece Herb Grinder and the Medium 4-Piece Grinder. The April 10, 2026 Flower Mill spotlight put the Shredder head to head with a milling-disc rival.
Cookies, Cheech and Chong and Frank White
The collab wall starts with Berner's side of the business. The Cookies x Santa Cruz Shredder collection pairs the shop's grinders with what it calls "iconic streetwear branding." It covers two-piece medium and large aluminum grinders, a four-piece medium and hemp grinders in all three sizes. Hemp trays, a stash jar, glass one-hitters, scrapers and SCS x Cookies T-shirts round it out.
Cheech and Chong have their own collection, and the newest piece is the All-In-One Hemp Rolling Kit at $19.95. The homepage also runs a Wiz Khalifa collection and a Notorious B.I.G. edition tied to hip-hop's 50th anniversary, with a separate SCS x Frank White collection. A 420 special edition collection was updated on September 20, 2026.
Skate brands on the grinder
The surf-and-skate origin shows up in the partner list. The shop carries Creature Skateboards x SCS, Independent Trucks x SCS, Bronson Speed Co. x SCS and an NHS x SCS collection. SCS x IPATH limited-edition grinders were updated on September 20, 2026.
The company backs the scene directly too. The homepage lists a skate team sponsorship program alongside the grinders, and a "Born To Shred" hemp two-piece sits in the hemp collection at $9.95.
Direct, wholesale and the September 2026 shop
The retail store ships free on U.S. orders over $50, runs bundle discounts and offers Sezzle pay-later checkout. A Bundle Up and Save builder lets buyers customize a setup, and Ripper bundles were updated on September 15, 2026.
Retailers go through a separate wholesale site with its own application. The shop's New Arrivals collections for aluminum and hemp were both refreshed on September 21, 2026, and a Shredder Warranty collection sits alongside them.
