Founder and 2015 launch
Sprig was founded in 2015 as a California beverage manufacturer making sparkling THC- and CBD-infused drinks. Michael Lewis is named as founder and chief executive in the company's June 2018 announcement of its CBD line. The company operates out of Newport Beach, California.
From dispensary soda to hemp beverages
The early Sprig line was THC-infused soda sold through California dispensaries — hundreds of them by 2018, on the company's own count. In June 2018 Sprig added a hemp-derived CBD range sold online and through health food retailers nationally. The current store carries both hemp THC and CBD cans, shipped across the continental United States.
THC lineup
The classic THC sampler runs Citrus Original, Citrus Zero Sugar, Yuzu and Honeycrisp Apple, each can carrying 10 milligrams of THC across two servings. The drinks are non-caffeinated and sold to purchasers 21 and over.
CBD lineup
The CBD cans carry 20 milligrams each. The line launched in 2018 with Citrus Original sweetened with cane sugar, plus Citrus Zero Sugar, Sparkling Lemon Tea Zero Sugar and Melon Zero Sugar sweetened with stevia and erythritol. The Citrus and Melon zero-sugar versions remain in the current catalog.
Ingredients and production
Sprig blends purified, lab-tested CBD and THC with natural flavors and sweeteners, filtered water and carbonation. Hemp comes from licensed, sustainable U.S. farms and the drinks are produced in a regulated, food-grade facility. The cans are marketed as naturally flavored, low calorie and gluten free.
Testing and labeling
Sprig publishes laboratory results for its current products and states that all Sprig products contain 0.3 percent THC or less. Packaging carries a California Proposition 65 warning for delta-9-THC.
