Cannabis Culture is a Vancouver cannabis publication that Marc Emery started in 1994 and has called itself an activist magazine ever since. Today it publishes online from 307 West Hastings Street, alongside its video arm, Pot TV.
The site was still filing daily in September 2026, with stories on Quebec’s cannabis industry, the Netherlands’ coffeeshop pilot and BC Liquor and Cannabis Stores raising $1.4 million for BC Wildfire Relief.
From a 1994 newsletter to issue 73
Emery launched the project in the summer of 1994 as a newsletter. The first magazine issue followed in January 1995, and the title was then renamed Cannabis Canada. At issue 13 it took the name Cannabis Culture to reflect a readership that reached well beyond Canada.
Dana Larsen took over as editor in December 1994. The earliest issues were printed on hemp paper, a practice dropped after issue 3. The magazine then moved to a bi-monthly schedule.
The magazine’s own history puts peak print circulation at roughly 62,000 to 70,000 copies an issue. Print ended in March 2009 with issue 73, and Cannabis Culture moved online-only.
Pot TV since January 2000
Pot TV went live in January 2000 and bills itself as the first cannabis video-streaming website. It broadcasts weekly episodes from Pot TV Studios at the same Vancouver address as the magazine.
The lineup includes Roll With It, The THC Show with Glenn Wells, The For Twenty Show, How’s It Growing? with Johnny B, The 420 Lifestyle Show and Morning Glory with BCBudGal. The THC Show reached episode 329 on May 4, 2026.
Other 2026 uploads include an April 28 documentary on former editor Dana Larsen, a July 8 Roll With It with Brent Bryksa and an August 13 episode with Holly and Cam from Sassy Weed.
Jodie Giesz-Ramsay and the Cannabis Culture businesses
Jodie Giesz-Ramsay, formerly Jodie Emery, owns Cannabis Culture Magazine, Pot TV, the Cannabis Culture Lounge and Cannabis Culture Headquarters, according to her author bio on the site. She joined the magazine as assistant editor in 2005 and has written that she has owned and operated Cannabis Culture since late 2009.
Between 2010 and 2014 she also hosted The Jodie Emery Show, a weekly video broadcast.
News, grow and activism sections
The site is organized into News, Grow, Activism, Arts & Entertainment, Hemp and Blogs, with a Backissues archive of the print run. The Local Noze is its product column, and a September 11, 2026 installment covered Nonna Red by Cappellano Cannabis.
British Columbia is a steady beat. An August 3, 2026 piece argued that B.C. has a craft cannabis advantage and needs a provincial strategy to use it.
Cannabis Cups, roundups and billboards
Cannabis Culture and Pot TV covered the High Times Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam in November 2013. In December 2014 the site reported Tommy Chong presenting Marc Emery with a lifetime achievement award at the same event.
Between 2015 and early 2016 the site ran a string of Leafly legalization roundups and Leafly List features. In August 2017 it reported on Weedmaps bringing pro-legalization billboards to Michigan during a ballot petition drive.
