Cream Puffz is a Blue Chip strain grown and sold by Purple Lotus in San Jose. Blue Chip is the dispensary’s exclusive house flower brand, grown in its own cultivation facility at the San Jose shop.
Purple Lotus describes its work with Blue Chip Genetics as longstanding. It acquired exclusive rights to the Blue Chip strain and brand in 2013, and says visitors have traveled from near and far since then to try it.
From a UC Davis seed hunt to a San Jose grow
The Blue Chip story starts in 2008, when two UC Davis biochemistry majors began hunting and cross-breeding cannabis genetics in Santa Rosa. Purple Lotus’s guide adds that Blue Chip’s founders once spent a full year traveling the globe for rare and exotic seeds.
A love of fire phenotypes drove that search, and it produced the brand’s namesake strain. In 2012 that cut was sold to an expert cultivator and named Blue Chip. Tommy Chong picked it in a blind taste test, and Blue Chip’s Durban Poison won a High Times Cannabis Cup.
Purple Lotus then put more than a million dollars into a cultivation facility at its San Jose dispensary. It brought top geneticists together there to experiment, a process that ran for more than two years before the current Blue Chip lineup took shape.
The team selects cuts by pheno-hunting. Purple Lotus describes it as growing out large numbers of plants, evaluating each one, and keeping only the rare standouts.
A head rush first, then the body
Purple Lotus tells shoppers not to let the soft name fool them. Its Blue Chip guide says Cream Puffz is a strain that means serious business, even with a dessert-case title.
The effects come in two stages. An initial head rush leaves people feeling uplifted and carefree, then a full body high settles in behind it. Purple Lotus pitches it as a buzz that is social and creative while still relaxing.
Where Cream Puffz sits in the Blue Chip lineup
The guide places Cream Puffz in an eight-strain set. Gangsta Bird crosses Gelato 33 with Extreme Cream and is grown organically in living soil. Zaburst is a fully organic cross of Zkittlez and Sunset Sherbert.
Georgia Pie is an indica-dominant hybrid of Gelatti and Kush Mintz, and Butter Mintz crosses Animal Mints with Bubba Kush. Carbon Fiber, a rare indica, joins Garlic Butter and The Glove, a Gary Payton tribute averaging 20–25% THC.
Purple Lotus now names ButterMintz, FortyOne, Face On Fire, Blue Chip GSC and the original Blue Chip as its signature strains. Runtz, GG4, Apricot Jelly, Purple Zushi, Mango Runtz, Guava Gelato and Zkittlez rotate through the lineup.

Matt and Vanessa Krish founded Purple Lotus in 2010 with four jars of flower in a small room on San Jose’s Eastside. The company now runs two retail locations and a delivery network, and claims 25% of its local market.
On Weedmaps, its menu carries Blue Chip flower such as Ether and Pink Zushi, along with a Blue Chip High Rollers joint range. The dispensary has also hosted a two-day Blue Chip takeover on June 26–27, 2021, with DJs, swag and strain deals.
