Where It Comes From
This one has a documented launch, which is rarer than it should be. Barney's Farm and B-Real of Cypress Hill debuted Insane OG on June 17, 2025 at Mary Jane Berlin, Europe's largest cannabis expo, with the global seed drop following on June 19.
The partnership goes back a lot further than the product. Barney's Farm founder Derry Brett and B-Real first connected in Amsterdam coffeeshops in the 1990s, over the same thing everyone connected over back then: terps.
Barney's pitched the release as a legacy drop rather than a celebrity drop, and the framing was aimed squarely at people who were around before the hype cycle existed. Given a Kush-purist formula landing in a market that had spent five years chasing candy, the positioning was the point as much as the plant was.
A second cultivar, Cherry Bomb, was announced as the September follow-up — a high-yielding, syrupy, pinene-forward hybrid built for mental uplift.
The Cross
Barney's Farm publishes the genetics as OG Kush crossed with Bubba Kush and Granddaddy Purple, feminized, at a 75 percent indica to 25 percent sativa split. Every parent is a documented Kush-family workhorse rather than a modern dessert cross, which is the whole point of the project.
OG Kush supplies the lemon-fuel signal. Bubba Kush deepens the coffee, earth, and body. Granddaddy Purple contributes the dark fruit, the grape, the floral sweetness — and, in a lot of phenotypes, the color.
Barney's describes the finished plant as earthy and gassy with delicate spice and fruity nuance, ripe berries and grape underneath, landing on a kushy body with subtle black pepper and lemon on the palate. The published dominant terpenes are caryophyllene for the peppery spice, limonene for the citrus, and myrcene for the earthy depth — a trio that lines up with what those three parents would be expected to bring.
Grow data is specific. Indoors it runs 100 to 120cm with a 55 to 65 day flower and up to 600g per square metre. Outdoors it stretches to 150 to 250cm, finishing late September into early October, with up to 1.5 to 2kg per plant under ideal conditions.

No competition placement yet. Insane OG's footprint so far is press and platform: a Mary Jane Berlin debut, a global seed drop, and the Dr. Greenthumb's brand attaching a legacy hip-hop name to a Kush-purist formula at exactly the moment most of the market was pointed elsewhere.
Barney's own description emphasizes a euphoric mood lift paired with physical comfort that relaxes without flattening you. Read that as breeder positioning — the release is new enough that a broad independent picture has not formed. Dose, tolerance, cannabinoid content, format, and setting shape the result far more than the ratio printed on the packaging.
