Lazer Gun is a hybrid cross of Georgia Pie and Zkittlez grown and sold by Preferred Gardens, the multistate cultivator led by founder David Polley. The cross itself was bred by Raw Genetics, as Polley later learned after years of selling it under the Lazer Gun name.
Its lasting role is as a parent. Preferred Gardens has used Lazer Gun to build at least two newer releases, Twin and Apricotz.
Georgia Pie meets Zkittlez
One parent is Georgia Pie. The other is Zkittlez, now sold as The Original Z. Terp Hogz growers Fields and Tony Mendo popularized it with help from 3rd Gen Family's Brandon Parker.
Zkittlez took first place at the 2016 Emerald Cup and won King of Z Hill in 2023. That same year, its breeders settled a trademark dispute with a candy company and adopted The Original Z as the official name.
On Weedmaps, the Preferred Gardens eighth lists Lazer Gun at 32% THC. The listing pairs sharp gas with sweet candy and creamy dessert notes, and tags apple, sweet and vanilla as its main flavors.
Twin: fixing Zoap's weak spot
Polley started the Twin cross on April 20, 2023. He paired Zoap, the Oakland cultivar from DEO Farms built on Rainbow Sherbet and Pink Guava, with Georgia Pie × Zkittlez as the male parent.
The goal was practical. Polley told Leaf Magazine his team loved Zoap's flavor, but the plant has always been prone to botrytis. The Georgia Pie × Zkittlez side brought strong vigor and mold resistance to cover that gap.
The selected phenotype delivered Zoap's flavor with added strength and resistance from the Lazer Gun side. Twin launched in California in December 2025, and Polley called it a flavor built for California's tastes.
Apricotz and the Znackz cross
Preferred Gardens also paired Lazer Gun with its own Znackz to make Apricotz. The full lineage reads (Chaufferin × Runtz) × (Georgia Pie × Zkittlez), putting Zkittlez on both sides of the family tree through Runtz.
Apricotz shows bold orange pistils with purple hues at the base of its buds. It carries the Runtz and Chaufferin line of Znackz into the Lazer Gun side, adding a new branch to the Preferred Gardens catalog.
Together, Twin and Apricotz show how Preferred Gardens treats Lazer Gun as a working breeding parent. It brings vigor and mold resistance to one cross and Zkittlez candy to the other.
The grower behind the jar
Preferred Gardens holds licenses for adult-use cultivation in California, medical cultivation and manufacturing in Florida, and processing in New York. It also operates in Arizona. The lineup covers mixed-light flower, full-gram pre-rolls, all-in-one vapes, rosin edibles and seeds through its sister site, ShopTheGardens.com.
The company has built a competition record too. It took the Z hybrid title at the Zalympics, took gold for Rookie of the Year at the 2025 Billy's with D'lish, and collected prize money from Proper Smoke League with MLZ.
Lazer Gun sits behind much of that newer work. What began as a Raw Genetics cross became a Preferred Gardens staple, then a parent for two of the company's latest releases.
