Point Break is a Surfr Seeds hybrid that crosses Tropicanna Cookies MTN Cut with Trophy Wife. Surfr released it as regular seed in 15-seed packs at $100, then hunted a Point Break male and built a whole line of crosses around it.
The strain's biggest spotlight came in 2023. High Times featured Point Break during the week of 4/20, while Noa Botanicals was selling it on Oahu.
Tropicanna Cookies MTN Cut on the mother side
Tropicana Cookies was first bred by Harry Palms of Bloom Seed Co, who crossed GSC with Tangie. Oni Seed Co in Colorado later worked the line into Tropicanna Cookies F2. Surfr built Point Break on the MTN Cut of that family.
Leafly describes Tropicana Cookies as a sativa-leaning hybrid suited to hot climates. It produces purple buds with hints of dark green and orange hairs.
The same GSC × Tangie family also turns up in extracts. Punch Extracts' Tropicana Cookies live rosin is pressed from fresh frozen hash, and its source cultivar flowers indoors in 58–65 days.
Trophy Wife, Surfr's Triangle Mints F2 male
Trophy Wife is Surfr's own hunted Triangle Mints F2 male. The breeder says that male lends its attributes to a full Trophy Wife line, with crosses such as Banana Cake, Double OG Chem, Envy and Redneck Wedding.
Point Break is where that male met the Tropicanna side. Seedfinder describes hardy, bushy plants with deep green leaves and thick trichome coverage, and puts flowering time at about 65 days.
The finished buds show a deep green color with a steel-blue shine under the trichomes. Leafly describes magenta, trichome-slick flower with dense structure and bright orange hairs, and lists THC at 23% with 1% CBG.
Surfr's Point Break line
Surfr kept working the cross after the first release. Surfr gives that male's full pedigree as Tropicanna Cookies MTN Cut × Trophy Wife (Triangle Mints F2). Its Point Break Line collection pairs the hunted Point Break male with other plants, with every pack sold as 15 regular seeds for $100.
The line includes Point Break F2, Gary Busey, Grand Reserve, Angry Incense, Grape Waves, Squid Brain, Salted Apples, Ghost Break, Free Refills, Ghost Wave and Mint Tropics. Several have sold out.
Surfr runs under the motto Stay High and Keep Growing. It also works with other breeders, including Sin City Seeds on the RIP TIDE collection.
From Oregon shelves to Oahu
Point Break reached Oregon shelves early. The Highest Critic reviewed a Surfr Select batch in July 2020, sold through TreeHouse Collective and Oregrown. The reviewer found it rounder than a pure Tropicanna, with orange juice and orange blossom up front.
Noa Botanicals brought Point Break to Hawaii as its 14th new strain drop of 2023. Noa grows it as an indica-dominant hybrid and lists limonene, linalool, myrcene and caryophyllene as its leading terpenes.
Noa sells the strain at its dispensaries in Aiea, Kaneʻohe and Honolulu. Noa describes an energetic, euphoric start that turns into heavy, stoney relaxation. On Leafly, one grower reported success with Point Break clones and praised the homemade rosin they produced.
