That pairing makes Reckless Rainbow a sister to Apple Fritter, the Lumpy's cultivar that took second place among hybrids at the 2016 High Times Northern California Cup.
An Animal Cookies × Sour Apple sister to Apple Fritter
GrowDiaries lists Lumpy's Flowers as the breeder and describes Reckless Rainbow as an Apple Fritter sister. Leafly carries the same Animal Cookies × Sour Apple parentage and files the strain as a hybrid.
AllBud and GrowDiaries both put it at roughly 70% indica and 30% sativa, with THC in the 20–24% range. Retail menus have run hotter. The Herb Collective in Orange County listed a Lumpy's exclusive cut at 36.2% THC.
The sibling comparison is the obvious one. Apple Fritter shares both parents, and Leafly puts its flowering time at 8–9 weeks. It has since fathered its own line, including Apple Tartz and Grapple Pie.

Lumpy's Flowers and the NorCal craft lane
Weedmaps describes Lumpy's as a Northern California craft cultivator with more than 15 years of growing behind it. The company began as a garage grow under Prop 215 and grew from there.
The brand credits its reputation to a grower-led approach built on quality, innovation and consistency. Flower is hand-trimmed. Weedmaps lists Apple Fritter and Reckless Rainbow as the company's signature creations, next to Cherry Jane, Strawberry Peelz and Bankz.
That lineup explains where Reckless Rainbow sits. It is not a bought-in cut or a seed-pack pickup. It came out of the same in-house breeding work that produced the brand's award-winning flagship.
Dark purple buds and a heavy finish
The Highest Critic reviewed a jar in October 2022 and gave it 3.9 out of 5. The reviewer described dark eggplant-purple buds, wheat-colored trichomes and peach-colored stigmas on a noticeably dry cure.
AllBud describes fat, long, spade-shaped nugs in olive green with purple undertones, thin red-orange hairs and a purple-tinted frost.
On flavor, The Highest Critic compared it to smoking sour straws while eating animal crackers. The high starts with a euphoric lift, then settles into heavy body relaxation. The Highest Critic pegged it as a nighttime strain.
A parent in the Lumpy's breeding program
Lumpy's kept working the plant after its release. GrowDiaries lists Reckless Rainbow as a parent of Fluffy, another Lumpy's in-house hybrid, bred from Reckless Rainbow × Runtz.
The GrowDiaries family tree connects Reckless Rainbow to several more descendants: Ben-N-Berry's, Trill and Passion Plum. For a strain built from two classic parents, it has become a working breeding stock plant in its own right.
