Sour Apple, also sold as Sour Apple Diesel, is Top Shelf Seeds' cross of an Original Diesel clone with a selected Cinderella 99 male. The pitch is sour citrus and tropical fruit riding on diesel, opening bright and cerebral before it gets heavier. Watch the name — it has been reused widely enough that the words on a menu are not a lineage.
Where It Comes From
The breeder's description is short and specific: an Original Diesel clone hit with a selected C99 male, with the faster-finishing phenotypes carrying a sour citrus lead over tropical pineapple. The Diesel side adds weight to the energetic C99 character, and the plants stretch in flower but take training well. Regular seeds, eight to nine weeks.
Cinderella 99 carries its own history, and it is a good one. Brothers Grimm Seeds — Rick "Mr. Soul" Campanella and his partner Sly — germinated bag seed found in Jack Herer flower in mid-1990s Amsterdam and kept a standout female they called Princess.
They crossed her to a Shiva Skunk male, cubed the line into Cinderella 88, then brought it back to Princess to make C99. That is where the pineapple-citrus and the fast, up-front mental character come from, and it is why a diesel cross onto it produces something with two clearly audible halves instead of a blur.
The Cross
Top Shelf Seeds gets breeder credit. Original Diesel supplies sour fuel, skunk and earthy structure. Cinderella 99 supplies bright fruit, citrus, tropical sweetness and a faster finish. The result files as a hybrid, which is the honest label for a plant that runs bright early and settles late.
Tart apple over diesel is the consistent read. Green-apple candy, lemon-lime peel and sweet tropical fruit tend to arrive first, with skunk, soil and gas underneath. A good batch keeps both halves audible — all fruit and no fuel usually means a different plant wearing the name, and that happens often enough to check for.
Buds run dense and rich green with occasional purple and heavy trichome cover, though structure shifts by selection. This went out as regular seed rather than one locked clone, so grower choice decides a great deal about what actually reaches a jar. Any potency figure on a package belongs to that batch and that grow, never to the cultivar itself.
The arc follows the build: a euphoric, mood-lifting opening that mellows toward physical relaxation as a session runs on. A measured serving reads daytime or early evening for someone with tolerance. More of it makes for a slower, less task-friendly night.
What It Left Behind
Sour Apple's real footprint is naming. The term now sits on apple-themed crosses from unrelated breeders and on clone-only versions sold by nurseries with no connection to the seed line.
Top Shelf Seeds' Original Diesel with C99 is the documented original. Anything else on a menu called Sour Apple needs its own lineage check before you treat it as the same plant, and most shops will tell you if you ask directly.
The High Rise Take
Green-apple candy and tropical fruit stacked on skunk and fuel, with a bright opening that turns heavy. Verify the producer's lineage before you buy, because this name travels a lot further than the genetics do. Cinderella 99 is the natural next stop if the fruit side is what caught you.
