Cindy 99, also known as Cinderella 99 or C99, is the sativa-dominant hybrid MrSoul created for Brothers Grimm Seeds in 1999. The final cross is Princess × P94, the end point of a backcross run that returned to one Jack Herer female four times.
That female came out of a bag of Amsterdam flower. The line she anchored became a compact, fast indoor sativa that growers still work with more than 25 years later.
Princess and the Sensi Smile seeds
In 1996, MrSoul pulled seeds from Jack Herer bud bought at the Sensi Smile coffeeshop in Amsterdam. One of the females that grew out stood apart, and he named her Princess.
Princess matured in about 50 days and produced outrageous amounts of resin. Brothers Grimm, run by MrSoul, whose name is Rick Campanella, and his partner Sly, built the whole Cinderella project around her.
Rather than cross Princess once and move on, MrSoul set out to fix her traits in seed form. The method was cubing: repeated backcrosses to the same mother, each one raising her share of the genetics.
From P50 to P94 in four generations
MrSoul crossed Princess with a resinous Shiva Skunk male. That first generation was P50, since half its genetics came from Princess.
He then took males from each generation back to Princess. P50 led to P75, then P88, then P94. MrSoul wrote that each generation improved in stability, quality and yield.
Cinderella 99 is the final step: Princess crossed with a P94 male. Next to Princess, the finished line showed 25% greater yield and a stronger branch structure.
MrSoul first documented the work online in June 2000, in a post titled A Cinderella Story. In 2016 he began producing feminized Cinderella 99 seeds alongside the regular line.
Short plants, big yields, 56–65 days
Brothers Grimm sells regular Cinderella 99 in packs of 13 seeds. The breeder lists a flowering time of 56–65 days.
Indoors, plants start around 18 inches and finish near 48 inches at harvest. An average indoor plant yields 4–8 ounces. Outdoors, Cindy 99 can grow into huge bushes that return about a pound each.
The breeder recommends plenty of light and nutrients, plus silica and extra calcium and magnesium. Growers run it as multi-headed bushes on stakes, or in sea-of-green and screen setups.
Leafly rates the strain easy to moderate to grow, with a short, bushy frame and high yields. It records THC around 18%.
Fruit up front, energy behind it
Brothers Grimm describes a fruity flavor with a funky aftertaste. It calls the effect smooth, strong and energetic, and Leafly users most often report feeling energetic, uplifted and focused.
Leafly lists Cinderella 99 as sativa-dominant and traces its roots to Jack Herer and Shiva Skunk. It notes that the strain caught on with indoor growers because of its short, bushy growth and high yields. It holds a 4.2-star rating across more than 1,200 reviews.
The line has also served as breeding stock. Leafly lists Amnesia and Sour Apple among its descendants.
Cindy 99 also shows up as a concentrate. Summit Boys' Cindy 99 diamonds carry the same Princess × P94 genetics into an extract jar.
