Cindy 99

Type: sativa

Cindy 99 is the short name for Cinderella 99, the Brothers Grimm Seeds cultivar MrSoul finished in 1999 through a multi-generation cubing project built around a single female called Princess. The breeder's current listing gives the cross as Princess x P94. Expect earthy tropical fruit cut with funk, a fast finish, and a bright, sharply cerebral lift.

Where It Comes From

The story starts in 1996 in Amsterdam. MrSoul, whose name is Rick Campanella and who worked as half of Brothers Grimm alongside a partner known as Sly, found seeds in Jack Herer flower bought at the Sensi Smile coffeeshop. He popped them and kept one standout female he named Princess: compact, clearly Haze-influenced, pineapple-leaning, and finishing in roughly 50 days.

Princess's mother was Jack Herer. Her father was never identified, which is part of why the plant became a project rather than a product. She was extraordinary but structurally awkward, so MrSoul set out to lock her in.

He crossed her to a Shiva Skunk male, then repeatedly backcrossed selected male offspring to Princess herself. That is the cubing process the whole C99 story rests on, and Brothers Grimm tracked it by percentage: P.50, then P.75, then P.88, then P.94. Crossing P.94 back to Princess produced the finished plant, released as Cinderella 99 in 1999.

The finished cultivar out-yielded Princess by about 25% and carried noticeably stronger branching, which was the practical payoff for all that selection work. Feminized versions followed in 2016. Cindy, Cindy 99, C99, and Cinderella 99 all point at the same line.

The name is a joke with a point. An overlooked seed from a coffeeshop bag became the Princess of the catalog.

The Cross

Brothers Grimm Seeds is the breeder of record and still sells the line. Princess is the anchor parent. P94 is a late cubing-generation male descended from that original Princess x Shiva Skunk pairing.

Writing the genetics simply as Princess x Shiva Skunk captures the first outcross but erases the four generations of backcrossing that actually define the release. The line carries beta-myrcene, limonene, pinene, beta-caryophyllene, and linalool, and the current listing gives a 56 to 63 day flowering window, which is quick for a plant with this much Haze behind it.

Cured flower ranges from sweet tropical fruit all the way to stinky rotten cheese, sometimes inside the same bud. Typical structure is elongated and green with orange pistils and visible resin. Phenotype, environment, harvest timing, dry, and cure move all of it, and the sharply cerebral lift arrives fast rather than building, so start low.

What It Left Behind

Its importance is genetic rather than ceremonial. Brothers Grimm calls it their most iconic strain and crown jewel, and the line has served as breeding stock for decades. The cubing project itself became a reference point for hobbyist breeders learning backcross work, which is a rarer kind of legacy than a trophy.

The High Rise Take

Cindy 99 is Cinderella 99: MrSoul's Princess-centered cubing project, finished as Princess x P94 in 1999. Earthy tropical fruit over funk, fast in the room and fast in the tent.
