Sour Kosher is a sativa-dominant hybrid from DNA Genetics, the Amsterdam seed company started by two Californians. It crosses the AJ cut of Sour Diesel with Kosher Kush, the Los Angeles clone that became one of DNA's signature cultivars.
DNA rates the result at 70% sativa and 30% indica. It sells Sour Kosher as feminized seed, with a flowering window of 9–9.5 weeks and yields above 500 g/m².
The AJ cut meets Kosher Kush
DNA calls the Sour Diesel parent the AJ cut, a phenotype with a long reputation among breeders. Sour Diesel first became popular in the early 1990s, and Leafly traces it to Chemdawg and Super Skunk.
The other parent carries DNA's own cup history. Kosher Kush descends from OG Kush and started as a clone-only strain in Los Angeles before DNA made seeds available. It won Best Indica at the High Times Cannabis Cup in 2010 and 2011, plus Best Strain in 2011.
DNA's 2019 promotion for Sour Kosher leaned on both names, pairing the AJ cut with what it called its multi-cup-winning Kosher Kush.
Tall plants and heavy resin
DNA describes Sour Kosher as a tall plant. Seedfinder and Hortus both list yields around 500 g/m², and GrowDiaries puts flowering at about 9 weeks. The strain grows both indoors and outdoors.
The breeder highlights resin-covered flowers and substantial yields. Seedfinder users report two distinct phenotypes that differ in intensity and effect, though both produce above-average resin and yield.
Sour Kosher has already been used in further breeding. Seedfinder lists True D from Grandmas Genetics, a Jungle Fuel × Sour Kosher cross, as a documented descendant.
From an Amsterdam shop to 200 awards
Don and Aaron, whose initials gave DNA its name, founded the company in 2003. The two California-born growers moved to Amsterdam with little money and opened their first shop in the city center in 2004. That shop still operates as an information center for growers.
Their first Cannabis Cup entry, also in 2004, took third place in the Indica category. DNA now counts more than 200 awards. High Times inducted it into its Seedbank Hall of Fame in 2009 and gave it a Trailblazers Award in 2015.
The catalog around Sour Kosher includes L.A. Confidential, Martian Mean Green, Tangie, Strawberry Banana and Lemon Skunk. DNA paired Kosher Kush with Lemon Skunk to make Golden Lemon, a 60/40 indica-dominant sibling of Sour Kosher on the Kosher side. Lemon Skunk genetics also turn up in Lemon OG, a Las Vegas Lemon Skunk × The OG #18 cross.
Numbers on the finished flower
Leafly lists Sour Kosher at about 21% THC and 1% CBG, the same averages it gives Kosher Kush. Its dominant terpene is limonene, followed by caryophyllene and myrcene.
Reviewers describe the flavor as gassy, piney and sour, with diesel, grape and apple touches. They report a creative, uplifted and energetic high that turns more relaxed than straight Sour Diesel, thanks to the Kush side. The strain holds 4.5 stars across 32 ratings.
