Camino is Kiva Confections' cannabis-gummy line, launched in 2018 as a California-inspired counterpart to Kiva's original chocolate. The brand pairs fruit flavors with labeled cannabinoid formulas and occasion names including Bliss, Chill, Social, Focus, Recover, Sleep, Uplifting, Excite, Energy, Balance and Exhilarate. It is a Kiva sub-brand rather than a separate company.

Kiva and the 2018 launch

Scott and Kristi Palmer founded Kiva in 2010 after experimenting with cannabis chocolate in their home kitchen, and built it into a portfolio that also includes Terra, Petra, Lost Farm and the Kiva CBN Dream Team. Eight years in, Kiva introduced Camino as its effect-positioned gummy collection. The name and visual world reference El Camino Real, the historic route along California's coast, and the original design work was created with San Francisco agency Stout.

Formats and formulas

The Camino catalog covers gummies from 2 to 50 mg THC, fruit chews at 5 to 10 mg THC and sour gummies at 10 mg THC per piece, with terpene blends tuned to each effect name. Minor cannabinoids run alongside THC across the range: CBD, CBN, CBG, THCV and CBC. Representative formulas include 5 mg THC with 5 mg CBD for Balance, 10 mg THC with 10 mg CBD and 10 mg CBN for Deep Sleep, and 5 mg THC with 2 mg THCV for Focus.

Flavors

Flavors include Watermelon Lemonade, Wild Berry, Pineapple Habanero, Wild Cherry, Midnight Blueberry, Mango, Yuzu Lemon, Green Apple and Freshly Squeezed, alongside seasonal releases. Kiva describes Camino as plant-based and made without animal by-products.

The 2020 CBN launch

In January 2020 Kiva launched Midnight Blueberry, a 5 mg THC and 1 mg CBN gummy, announcing it as the first CBN-infused edible. The formula put CBN in front of licensed-market shoppers as a named ingredient rather than a specialist one.

Awards

Camino's packaging redesign won a Silver Clio Cannabis Award for Brand Design in 2020, one of six Clio awards Kiva announced that year.

Packaging and markets

Kiva updated Camino packaging in 2021, replacing tins with plastic inserts with fully recyclable metal tins. Kiva sells hemp-derived Camino gummies online and licenses or manufactures marijuana-derived Camino products inside regulated state markets including California, Arizona, Illinois, Michigan, Nevada, New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Missouri, Massachusetts, Maryland, Florida, Connecticut, Hawaii, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Arkansas. Certificates of analysis for the hemp-derived line are searchable by product and batch ID.
