At a glance
Houseplant is the cannabis-and-design company created by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and business partner Michael “Mikey” Mohr. Launched in Canada before expanding to California, it now operates as a broader lifestyle business spanning sculptural smoking objects, rolling goods, collaborations and hemp-derived THC beverages.
Founders
Houseplant’s official story foregrounds Rogen and Goldberg, longtime creative partners who wanted smoking accessories to function as considered home objects. Independent 2025 reporting also identifies Mikey Mohr as a co-founder. The company’s legal ecommerce terms identify S49 Ventures LLC and related entities behind the current U.S. operation.
Canada launch
Houseplant’s relationship with Canopy Growth began in 2018, ahead of Canadian legalization, and the brand launched in Canada in 2019. That first phase included flower, pre-rolls, softgels and beverages produced within Canada’s federal framework, making Houseplant more than a celebrity licensing exercise from the outset.
Canopy separation and U.S. expansion
Houseplant and Canopy mutually ended their Canadian joint venture in July 2021 after three years, with Houseplant stating it would develop independently and plan a future Canadian relaunch. Separately, the brand entered California’s regulated market in 2021, where The Apothecarium was an early retail partner.
Current housegoods
The main Houseplant store now emphasizes design objects: multiple ashtrays, glass grinders and stash jars, rolling papers and cones, furniture, rugs, incense, ceramics and limited collaborations. Materials include marble, stoneware, ceramics, cast iron, concrete, glass and leather. Seth-designed objects are identified as such rather than implying he hand-makes every unit.
Current THC beverages
A separate Houseplant beverage site sells zero-calorie, zero-sugar seltzers with 3 milligrams of hemp-derived delta-9 THC per can. Current core flavors include Pineapple, Citrus, Blackberry and Black Cherry, with seasonal Blood Orange. The site publishes batch COAs and shipping eligibility varies with state hemp rules.
Cannabis products today
Houseplant’s historical California cannabis range included branded flower and pre-rolled joints, but the current main shop is not a reliable live cannabis menu and its plant subdomain was unavailable during research. Local licensed dispensary menus should control any claim about current marijuana strains, package sizes or retail availability.
Design recognition
Houseplant’s U.S. identity and packaging system received a D&AD Pencil in 2022 in packaging design, with MA-MA and Pràctica credited as leads. The work included typography, illustration and structural packaging for cannabis tin jars. That is a verified design award, not a cannabis quality award.
Collaborations and media
The brand has collaborated with Kith, OCB, Airbnb, Cometeer, Carbone Fine Food and scent partner Droplet, among others. Extensive design and business coverage has helped it move beyond conventional celebrity-cannabis merchandising. Collaboration availability is often limited, and archived launches should not be described as current stock.
What to know before buying. Housegoods, hemp-derived beverages and state-licensed marijuana follow different legal and distribution systems. Verify which channel you are shopping, inspect beverage COAs, and use a licensed dispensary for cannabis. The 2021 Canopy separation means older Canadian product pages do not establish current ownership or availability.
