GMO is a live rosin from Punch Extracts, the solventless arm of Punch Edibles & Extracts. Punch presses it from the GMO cultivar, a cross of Chemdawg D and the Forum cut of GSC, and its Weedmaps catalog lists GMO as a 1g Tier 3 fresh press and as Silver Tier cold cure badder.
The genetics behind the jar carry real weight. The GMO clone came out of Mamiko Seeds' Chem Cookies line, and High Times named it one of its top 10 varieties for 2018.
From Mamiko's Chem Cookies to the GMO clone
David Mamiko of Mamiko Seeds created Chem Cookies as part of the company's first Cookies Collection, released around 2013. He paired Chemdawg D with Forum GSC. Mamiko chose that Chem D clone as the one most representative of Chemdawg traits.
SkunkMasterFlex, a Michigan cultivator, grew out Mamiko's seeds, selected a keeper and gave it the GMO name. The clone spread through Michigan dispensaries first, then across American growing regions.
The same plant goes by other names. Weedmaps files Punch's GMO live rosin vape under GMO Cookies, with Chemdog and GSC as parents, and Punch also presses Garlic Cookies as a Tier 1 live rosin badder.
A Cup winner built for extraction
GMO won first place Indica at the 2017 High Times Midwest Cup. The High Times top 10 list for 2018 followed. By then the clone had a reputation that went well beyond flower.
Extraction is where GMO made its name. 710 Labs calls it a solventless staple that packs a punch. Alchimia describes the Chem Cookies line as a champion in dry hash, ice-o-lator and rosin, with notably high returns and excellent resin quality.
The plant takes its time. Mamiko puts flowering at 70–74 days, calls it a fairly complete plant with strong potency, and notes the intersex tendencies common to Chem genetics. Mamiko's later seed version of the line builds enormous colas on an indica-dominant frame.
How Punch makes its live rosin
Punch starts with fresh frozen flower rather than cured flower. The frozen material is washed into hash with ultra-purified ice and water, then pressed through a fine mesh to remove impurities.
The wash uses only ice and water, and Punch describes the result as contaminant free. Production runs in a climate-controlled environment to hold on to flavor. Punch sells live rosin as either a fresh press or a cold cure badder.
Current GMO jars on Weedmaps run as a Tier 3 fresh press and as Silver Tier cold cure badder, with a Silver Tier Half & Half version in 1g and 4g sizes. Punch also puts GMO live rosin into a 1g all-in-one vape, which Weedmaps lists as a hybrid with a diesel, earthy, pungent flavor and relaxed, happy, uplifted effects.
GMO across the Punch lineup
GMO is also a building block inside Punch's catalog. Weedmaps lists Banana GMO and Honeythorn GMO as Tier 2 live rosin cold cure badders, and Melon GMO, GMO Guava and GMO Ice Cream at Tier 4.
Other GMO names on the menu include GMO Mints, GMO Thang and GMO Funk Mountain, all sold as 1g cold cure badder. Each one carries the GMO name into a new pairing.
Punch runs its industrial kitchen and extraction facility in Canoga Park, in the San Fernando Valley. The company started in 2013 with potent edibles in a small package, then added extracts. Its family of brands includes Punch Extracts, Tempo and Dr Norms, with products in California, Oklahoma and New York.
