GMO Cookies is an indica-dominant hybrid grown indoors in San Francisco by Buddy Buddy, a Clean Green Certified cultivator. The genetics trace to Mamiko Seeds' Chem Cookies line, a cross of Chem D and the Forum cut of Girl Scout Cookies.
Buddy Buddy's harvest has tested at 28.43% THC. The flower also sells as Garlic Cookies, and the same family produced the GMO clone that High Times named one of its top 10 varieties for 2018.
Buddy Buddy grows it indoors in San Francisco
Buddy Buddy was started by childhood friends who set out to bring San Francisco's cannabis tastemaking to the wider market. The company grows indoors, which it says gives it total control over how its plants are cared for.
Its flower carries Clean Green certification. Buddy Buddy aims for richly colored, sticky flower with full texture and visible trichome coats, and it pheno-hunts to find cuts sold only from its own farm.
The GMO Cookies release sells in eighths, quarters and half ounces. Buddy Buddy's other San Francisco work includes Zookies, Do-Si-Pie, Mochi, Wild Cherry Punch and Purple Punch, which scored 8.8 in a Respect My Region review.
Mamiko Seeds and the Chem Cookies cross
David Mamiko of Mamiko Seeds created Chem Cookies as part of the company's first Cookies Collection, released around 2013. He crossed Chemdawg D with Forum GSC. Mamiko picked that Chem D clone as the one most representative of Chemdawg traits.
Seed banks still carry the line under both names. Heritage Seed Bank lists Mamiko's Chem Cookies feminized seeds as GMO Cookies, sold in six-seed packs, with a 9–10 week flowering time.
Heritage also sells Mamiko's seeds as a feminized hybrid, so growers can start the line from seed rather than clone. The GSC side gives Buddy Buddy's flower a sweet, earthy flavor.
From seed pack to the GMO clone
SkunkMasterFlex, a Michigan cultivator, grew out Mamiko's seeds, kept one standout plant and named it GMO. The clone spread through Michigan dispensaries before reaching growers across the United States.
GMO won first place Indica at the 2017 High Times Midwest Cup. Mamiko describes the line as a fairly complete plant with strong potency and a 70–74 day flowering period, along with the intersex tendencies common to Chem genetics.
Buddy Buddy has worked the family into its own crosses as well. Its GOT strain combines GMO with OG Kush and Triangle Kush, testing at 23–27% total THC with dark green flower and patches of amber pistils.
GMO Cookies in rosin and hash
The line is just as well known in extraction. 710 Labs calls GMO a solventless staple that packs a punch, and Mamiko's seed version is described as a champion in dry hash, ice-o-lator and rosin.
