GMO badder is a soft, whipped concentrate from Summit Boys, a California extraction brand that has worked in concentrates since 2016. It is made from GMO, the Chem D × GSC Forum Cut selection out of the Mamiko Seeds Chem Cookies line.
Summit Boys is known above all for its White Caviar products, and its range runs from sugar to diamonds. GMO brings that catalog a cut with a competition record in both flower and concentrate categories.
Summit Boys, from Prop 215 to a public company
Summit Boys started operating in 2016 under Proposition 215, California's original medical cannabis framework. By 2020 the brand had a cult following on Instagram of more than 66,000 people, and its White Caviar branded products had become its signature.
In July 2020, TransCanna Holdings announced a memorandum of understanding with Summit Boys. Under that deal, TransCanna's Lyfted Farms subsidiary would supply flower to Summit Boys for processing. The announcement named Mike Larson as Summit Boys CEO.
In August 2021, Grapefruit USA bought control of Summit Boys, Inc., issuing 4,545,455 shares for a 51% stake. Grapefruit's filings describe Summit Boys as an extraction brand with products in retail stores across California. The Summit Boys trademark was registered in the United States on July 6, 2021.
A cup record built on caviar and live resin
Summit Boys made its mark at the 2019 Bay Area Cannabis Cup. TransCanna's announcement credited the brand with 14 awards that year, including placements in the Best Product and Hybrid Concentrate categories.
The official results show the details. Summit Boys Caviar took third place for Best Product. Pacific Forbidden Banana Live Resin, a Pacific Reserve × Summit Boys collaboration, took second for Best Hybrid Concentrate. Gelato Live Resin, made with Noble Farms, placed third in the same category.
Grapefruit lists the Summit Boys range as sugar, crumble, badder, live resin, diamonds, budder, sauce and caviar.
What goes into a jar of badder
Badder is a close cousin of wax. Leafly describes wax as an extract named for its soft, malleable texture, and it groups badder, butter and honeycomb as cosmetic variations on the same idea.
Most wax is made through butane or hydrocarbon extraction. The solvent is pushed through contained plant material, stripping cannabinoids and other compounds into an oil. When that oil is agitated during refinement, it turns opaque, and names like badder describe the soft texture that results.
Why GMO keeps showing up in extraction rooms
David Mamiko released the Chem Cookies line in 2013, crossing Chemdawg D with a reversed Forum cut of Girl Scout Cookies. SkunkMasterFlex, a Michigan cultivator, selected the keeper and named it GMO. Mamiko credits the Cookies half with giving the line its aptitude for concentrates.
The cut backed that up in competition. GMO took first place for indica flower at the 2017 High Times Midwest Cannabis Cup and second for solventless concentrates. 710 Labs calls it a solventless staple, and GMO flower follows the clone itself.
