Modified Strawberries is a live rosin from Punch Extracts, the solventless arm of San Diego's Punch Edibles & Extracts. It is pressed from an indica-dominant cross of Sour Strawberry and GMO Cookies, and a 2021 fresh press batch tested at 81.62% THC.
Punch has run the cultivar through more than one format. It has shown up as fresh press rosin and as a Tier 4 cold cure badder sold in 1g jars.
Sour Strawberry and GMO Cookies
The cross brings together two well-traveled families. Sour Strawberry carries Strawberry Cough and East Coast Sour Diesel in its background. GMO Cookies traces back to Chemdawg and Girl Scout Cookies.
That puts four familiar names in the family tree: Strawberry Cough, East Coast Sour Diesel, Chemdawg and Girl Scout Cookies. The finished cross leans indica-dominant.
How Punch makes live rosin
Punch starts with fresh frozen flower rather than cured buds. Freezing right after harvest keeps terpenes that would otherwise boil off at room temperature. The frozen material is washed into hash with ultra purified ice and water in a climate-controlled room.
That hash is then pressed through fine mesh to make rosin. No hydrocarbon solvents enter the process at any stage. Punch then finishes its rosin in two textures, fresh press or cold cure batter, and offers both across its tiered range.
Four tiers of rosin
Punch sorts its live rosin into four tiers based on the source material. Tier 1 is pressed from indoor flower, Tier 2 from greenhouse flower and Tier 3 from outdoor, sun-grown flower. The tier on the jar tells you where the starting plant came from.
A January 2021 run of Modified Strawberries landed in Tier 3 as a fresh press rosin made from sun-grown material. That batch tested at 81.62% THC and 0.24% CBD, with total cannabinoids near 95.40%. It sold for about $50 or less at most shops before tax.
Punch has also released the cultivar as a Tier 4 live rosin cold cure badder in 1g jars, listed on Leafly under the Punch Edibles brand.
Punch Edibles and the move into extracts
Andrew and Samantha O'Donnell founded Punch Edibles & Extracts in 2013 in California's medical cannabis market. Andrew had run a San Diego dispensary before the pair started making edibles, and chocolate Punch Bars became the company's flagship product. The edible line later grew to include cookie bars, creams, malt balls, vegan fruit snacks and gummies.
From there, Punch grew into a full cannabis brand with solventless extracts, vapes and pre-rolls. It holds licenses in California, Oklahoma and New York. Oklahoma started as a licensing deal before Punch secured its own license, and the New York adult-use launch came in 2023. Dr. Norm's sits in the same family of brands.
Modified Strawberries shows the extracts side of that growth. It pairs a Chem-and-Cookies powerhouse with a strawberry line, then runs it through the same fresh frozen, ice-water and press process Punch uses across its rosin catalog. The tier and texture change from drop to drop, but the method stays the same.
