Self-pollinating a cultivar is a deliberate move: reverse a female, hit the same cultivar with its own pollen, and the result is a population concentrated around one genetic family instead of a blend of two. Breeders use S1s like this to surface recessive traits and test whether a clone-only line can be reproduced from seed.
The name is a nod to the numerology superstition around 11:11 on a clock, which also happens to double the 11 in RS11.
