Gadzooks is an indoor hybrid from Maven Genetics, bred by Thunderfudge Genetics from Zookies and Chemmy Sours. Maven grows and packages the flower in California, while Thunderfudge supplies the cross from his Pacific Northwest breeding program.
The most notable thing about Gadzooks is where its sour side comes from. Chemmy Sours traces back to Sour Larry, the line Thunderfudge has worked for more than a decade.
Thunderfudge and the Sour Larry line
Thunderfudge started out around 1990 as a high school enthusiast and seller before moving into cultivation. In an interview with The High End seed bank, he dates his breeding foundation to work with Exotic Mike starting around 2008.
Sour Larry is his signature project. He made it by crossing Larry OG with a Sour Diesel IBL, then backcrossing the result to Larry. He has kept refining that line for over ten years.
His method favors gene pools over single keepers. Thunderfudge runs open pollinations with several selected plants at once, aiming to reach stable inbred lines faster. The interview also covers other crosses built on his lines, including Slice Cream Cake, an Ice Cream Cake and Sour Larry BX2 cross.
Zookies meets Chemmy Sours
Chemmy Sours appears in the Thunderfudge catalog as Chemmy F'n Sours. The breeder describes it as Zkittlez crossed to a Sour Larry backcross, which ties the Zkittlez family to his Larry OG and Sour Diesel work.
Zookies brings the Cookies side. Leafly lists it as a cross of Animal Cookies and Original Glue, a hybrid that runs around 21% THC and leads with caryophyllene, limonene and linalool.
Put together, Gadzooks carries Animal Cookies, Original Glue, Zkittlez, Larry OG and Sour Diesel in its extended family. Speakeasy Seedbank has sold the cross as Gadzookz, a 10-pack of regular seeds from Thunderfudge Genetics priced at $100.
Maven's indoor program
Maven Genetics bills itself as California connoisseur cannabis. The company grows indoors and credits its results to meticulous phenotyping and precision cultivation. It sells flower, seeds and concentrates, runs a Connoisseur Club membership and operates its own retail locations.
Flower Company's listing says Maven was set up to breed and cultivate premium, exotic indoor cannabis. The same page points to more than two decades of cultivation experience behind the brand.
Most of Maven's catalog is bred in-house. Its strain library is built on house parents such as Blue Lotus, an XXX OG and Blue Gelato #41 cross, and Prizm, which pairs Opal with Permanent Marker #12.
Those parents branch into newer releases. French Lotus crosses FKAFL with Blue Lotus, and Chroma pairs Prizm with Black Diamond X. Gadzooks comes from outside that house family, with Thunderfudge genetics running through a Maven indoor finish.
Gadzooks in the jar
Maven sells Gadzooks as indoor hybrid flower in 3.5g jars. Flower Company rates it Level 3, or Very Loud, on its potency scale, and lists caryophyllene, limonene and myrcene as its main terpenes.
Retail descriptions stay consistent. Flower Company pitches it as a tingly, relaxing hybrid that mixes a heady lift with couch-locking calm. Medleaf Delivery calls it hard-hitting and long-lasting, with an exceptionally smooth smoke and flavor that moves from pine toward lavender sweetness.
Prices have run from $38 to $55 an eighth depending on the shop. Speakeasy's seed packs have also sold out.
