Gastro Pop is a hybrid from Compound Genetics, the breeding house founded by Chris Lynch. It crosses Apples & Bananas with Grape Gasoline, two cultivars Lynch also created. Lynch spent time in Amsterdam's cannabis scene before moving to Portland in 2007.
Compound calls Gastro Pop a signature, award-winning strain and credits it with launching the company in Germany. It has since become the center of its own seed collection.
Grape Gasoline and the Jet Fuel Gelato line
Grape Gasoline supplies half of Gastro Pop's genetics. Compound made it by crossing Cannarado's Grape Pie with its own Jet Fuel Gelato. Grape Pie comes from Grape Stomper and Cherry Pie, while Jet Fuel Gelato combines Gelato 45, High Octane and Jet Fuel G6.
Compound describes Grape Gasoline as round, dark purple buds with big, frosty calyxes. The breeder also says the plant has strong agronomic traits and is easy to grow. Jet Fuel Gelato sits behind several other Compound releases, including First Class Funk, a GMO and Jet Fuel Gelato cross.
From the original Grape Gasoline work, Compound singles out four standout crosses. Gastro Pop is named alongside Pink Certz, Mellowz and El Chivo. Of that group, it is the one that went on to carry a full collection of its own.
Purple flowers on an eight-week clock
Compound lists an 8-week flowering time for Gastro Pop. Seedfinder puts it at roughly 65 days and notes that the seeds are sold feminized only. The flowers finish dark purple, coated in glistening trichomes, and the breeder says they fade easily by the end of the cycle.
Buds form around the size of golf balls, with moderate spacing between nodes. Compound recommends high light intensity, at 850 PPFD or more. The plant can also work in double-stacked rooms, as long as a grower can accommodate its stretch.
The dense flowers call for attention to moisture and heat late in flower. That combination of short timing, heavy color and compact structure explains why growers keep returning to the cut.
Potency figures and standout phenotypes
Seedfinder reports a THC range of 23–30% for Gastro Pop, with original clones testing between 27% and 30%. Leafly lists the strain at 26% THC and 1% CBG, with caryophyllene, limonene and myrcene as its leading terpenes.
Several phenotypes circulated after the release, and Leafly points to #5 and #28 as the top performers. Leafly classifies Gastro Pop as a hybrid that leans toward calm, relaxed effects and tends to wake up the appetite. Seedfinder describes a happy, relaxed stone that sits in both the head and the body. The flavor lands on grape with a sweet, candied edge.
The Gastro Pop seed collection
Compound built a named collection around Gastro Pop, using the plant as a parent across a run of new crosses. The lineup includes Gastro Pop S1, a selfed version of the original, alongside 10Gs, Banana Cream Pop and Perzimmon.
The same collection also lists Wingsuit, Bling Blaow, Facetz, Tigerz Eye, 24 Karatz, Double Up and Total Eclipse. Each pairs Gastro Pop with a different partner, which gives growers a way to chase its purple color and short finish in new directions.
