First Class Funk is an indica-dominant hybrid from Compound Genetics, the breeding house Chris Lynch founded in 2017. It crosses GMO, also known as GMO Cookies, with Compound's own Jet Fuel Gelato.
Leafly says the strain was bred for potency, and lab figures back that up. Tissue culture supplier Segra International lists THC at 23–27%, with total cannabinoids reaching 25–30%. Compound released the seeds only in limited quantities in 2020, and never as feminized stock.
A garlic-heavy mother and a Compound workhorse
The GMO side comes from Mamiko Seeds, which bred GMO Cookies by crossing Girl Scout Cookies with Chemdawg. Leafly classes it as an indica-dominant hybrid with light green, spade-shaped buds, an 8–9 week flower and a hard grow.
Its Girl Scout Cookies parent traces back to California breeder Jigga, who built it from an OG Kush sub-type and F1 Durban. That same Cookies line also produced Thin Mint and Platinum GSC.
Jet Fuel Gelato is one of Compound's core breeding plants, a cross of Gelato 45 with High Octane × Jet Fuel G6. Compound lists its leading terpenes as beta-caryophyllene, limonene and humulene, the same trio Segra measures as dominant in First Class Funk.
One branch of the Jet Fuel Gelato family
Compound has used Jet Fuel Gelato as a parent across a long run of releases. The breeder names First Class Funk among its offspring, next to High Society, Jokerz, Horchata, Life Hack and Marshmallow OG.
The same family includes Gummiez, Krypto Chronic and Grape Gasoline, which pairs Jet Fuel Gelato with Cannarado's Grape Pie. Grape Gas went on to parent Gastro Pop, Compound's cross with Apples & Bananas. First Class Funk is the branch where Jet Fuel Gelato meets GMO.
Lynch built that program after time in Amsterdam from 2004 and a move to Portland, Oregon, in 2007. Seedfinder lists Compound collaborations with Berner and Wiz Khalifa.
Long flower, big stretch and heavy yields
First Class Funk takes its time. Segra lists 70 or more days of flower, Seedfinder about 10 weeks and Mother Labs 63–70 days. Growers can expect a medium to tall plant with high stretch once flower begins.
Segra rates the yield as heavy and describes the blooms as purple. Mother Labs lists a 175g yield figure. The cultivar is available as tissue culture through Segra under the ID FCF-904, with lab data from California testing on file.
Growers and extractors running the cut
The genetics have spread well beyond Compound's own garden. In Illinois, Stoner Village grows First Class Funk as premium indica flower for select dispensaries, crediting Compound as breeder.
In Humboldt County, Sabertooth Farms grows it outdoors under the sun. Nasha Hash presses that material into hash sold as First Klass Funk. In California, Punch Extracts has released First Class Funk as a 1g live rosin.
Terpenes and potency figures
Segra reports 2–3% total terpenes. Mother Labs lists 4–5%, with THC between 25% and 30% and 0.6% CBGA. Leafly shows 26% THC and 1% CBG, led by limonene, caryophyllene and pinene, and Seedfinder cites a 27–35% THC range.
On Leafly, 85 ratings average 4.6 stars. Reviewers call it giggly and relaxing, with euphoric, uplifted moments and strong munchies. The flavor leans pepper and diesel.
