Gush Mints is Purple City Genetics' Oakland-bred cross of Kush Mints and F1 Durb x Gushers — a dense, purple, indica-leaning hybrid whose real distinction is vigour rather than novelty. Three Cookies-line parents, one exceptionally hardy plant.
Where It Comes From
Purple City Genetics has been breeding out of Oakland since 2008, and Gush Mints is the release that carried the name furthest. It grows fast and heavy — broad leaves, thick stalks, a hard stretch into bloom.
That vigour is the commercially important part. It made the plant straightforward to scale into production rooms up and down the West Coast, and it is why the cross keeps reappearing as a parent in newer work instead of fading out after a season or two.
The Cross
The lineage is Kush Mints x (F1 Durb x Gushers). Kush Mints — Seed Junky Genetics' Bubba Kush x Animal Mints — supplies the mint-and-gas backbone and the Cookies-family density.
F1 Durb is the rare piece: a Durban Poison-descended line held closely by Bay Area breeder Jigga and almost never released for outside breeding, contributing a bright, spicy, cerebral lift that keeps the cross from sitting flat. Gushers, also sold as TK41, is Triangle Kush x Gelato 41 out of Cookies Fam.
The colour is real rather than a grow-light trick. Buds shade blue as they mature and finish deep purple, wrapped in bright orange pistils under a thick, gritty trichome coat, and cooler finishing temperatures push the purple further.
Why Breeders Keep Using It
Most strains that scale well do so by being forgiving and unremarkable. Gush Mints scaled while holding a genuinely uncommon parent in F1 Durb, which is a harder trick and the reason it has value as breeding stock rather than only as flower.
