Gush Mints is an indica-dominant hybrid from Purple City Genetics, the Oakland nursery and seed company that has worked California genetics since 2008. The cross is Kush Mints × (F1 Durb × Gushers), and it has become one of the house foundations Purple City keeps breeding from.
The cultivar earned a nomination for Leafly Strain of the Year 2025. Among growers, its reputation rests on yield and bag appeal, traits that carry into the Purple City lines built on top of it.
An Oakland nursery with a Barcelona outpost
Purple City Genetics calls itself one of the original cannabis nurseries in California and the last one of that first wave still standing. The company describes itself as the largest feminized seed producer in the state, and it has run a presence in Barcelona since 2018.
Gush Mints clones move to licensed California cultivators through Highline Nursery, which lists the cut for licensed farms. That clone pipeline is how the cultivar reached commercial gardens and hash farms around the state rather than staying a breeder-only selection.
Kush Mints meets F1 Durb and Gushers
One side of the cross is Kush Mints, the balanced Animal Mints × Bubba Kush hybrid. Kush Mints finishes in 8–9 weeks on its own, while Gush Mints runs longer in flower. Kush Mints also sits behind Ice Cream Mints, where it meets Ice Cream Cake instead of a fruit-forward partner.
The other side is a two-part package: F1 Durb crossed with Gushers. Purple City groups those two into a single parent before pairing it with Kush Mints, so the finished plant carries three named lines in total.
The flavor lands sweet and minty with a tropical kick and a light herbal edge underneath. Effects run heavy and relaxed, with the kind of slow-building body high that Leafly reviewers describe as a creeper.
Fast veg, big stretch and 10-plus weeks
Highline Nursery flags Gush Mints as the fastest-vegging plant it currently runs. It stretches hard once flowering starts, and the tops develop like spears, so growers train and trellis it to keep the canopy even. It prefers cooler weather.
Flowering takes 10-plus weeks. The payoff is dense, chunky buds that stack down into the lower sections of the plant, often with deep purple color. Highline puts average THC at 27–30% and hash yield around 3%, and Leafly adds limonene, caryophyllene and linalool as its lead terpenes.
Humboldt hash and the next generation
Gush Mints also grows outdoors in Humboldt County for Nasha Hasha's hash library. Five farms run it in full sun with native soil, rainwater and organic fertilizers: Sabertooth Farms, Blocksburg Family Farms, Bandwagon Gardens, Mattole Valley Sungrown and Emerald Queen Farms.
Back in Oakland, Purple City keeps using Gush Mints as a parent. Pinnacle, Peak 112 and Town Heights all trace back to it, and Peak 112 is listed as a Pinnacle and Gush Mints back-cross. One home grower credits Gush Mints with a full switch to Purple City breeder cuts and says every derivative has delivered since.
