Kali, sold as The Kali, is a pure indica from Big Buddha Seeds built on a clone-only female from Afghan and Pakistani landrace stock. The breeder calls it a feminized strain with a long story, one that reaches back to the Afghan and Pakistani fields of the early 1980s.
The female also played a part in one of the breeder's signature lines. Big Buddha went looking for her for backcrossing work in its Big Buddha Cheese projects.
A clone-only female from the Afghan border
Seedfinder lists The Kali's lineage simply as pure landrace Afghan/Pakistan indica, clone-only. Big Buddha treated finding the right female as an ongoing project. The plant it kept is the one behind every pack of seed it sold.
Those seeds were made by selfing the clone: the Kali female was pollinated by a reversed Kali clone. The result was a feminized-only release, with no regular seed offered. According to Ganjed, the seed stock connects to a male that contributed to the Cup-winning Big Buddha Cheese.
Cheese runs through much of the breeder's catalog. Big Buddha's releases include Blue Cheese, G-Bomb and Freeze Cheese 89, and The Kali belongs to the same stretch of work.
How the plant grows
Big Buddha describes The Kali as stout and fat, with a slender indica leaf pattern and pungent, heavy buds. Ganjed adds dark green, thin leaflets on sturdy branches, and notes that plants handle both heat and cold well.
Indoors, it flowers in 8–10 weeks. Outdoors, it finishes at the end of October. Ganjed reports plants usually entering flower at about 70 cm and finishing between 1.3 and 2 meters. Each plant can deliver around a kilogram when grown well.
The cultivar runs in soil, coco or hydro with moderate to heavy feeding, and it suits growers at any experience level. Choice Seeds describes it as easy to grow, with good stress and disease resistance.
Resin built for hash
The Kali's value starts with its resin. Ganjed calls it ideal for hashmaking thanks to its hash-derived lineage and heavy resin. The flavor leans toward lemon, earth and kush, with a hash-like finish.
UK seed shop Gorilla Seeds describes it as short and fat with a very heavy coat of trichomes. The same listing pitches it to collectors as old-school cannabis from the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Kali and the Big Buddha Cheese family
Blue Cheese shows where the Cheese program went next. Leafly lists Blue Cheese as an indica cross of a Blueberry male and a UK Cheese female, itself a Skunk #1 phenotype.
The Kali came at that work from the Afghan side. Its female was brought in for backcrossing on the Cheese projects, and its related male stock fed into Big Buddha Cheese.
On effects, Big Buddha describes a long-lasting, heavy buzz that is highly euphoric. Ganjed calls it slow to arrive, with a flow of euphoria and a creeping body stone. Gorilla Seeds now lists the feminized seed as discontinued, and Choice Seeds shows it out of stock.
