MK Ultra is an indica from T.H. Seeds, the Amsterdam seed company founded in 1993. It crosses OG Kush with G-13, and it won first place in the Indica category at the 2003 High Times Cannabis Cup.
T.H. Seeds named the cultivar after the 1950s LSD experiments and still sells it as regular seeds. The company was one of the first seed banks inducted into the High Times Seedbank Hall of Fame, and MK Ultra has kept adding trophies more than a decade after its first win.
Back-to-back Cannabis Cup results in 2003 and 2004
MK Ultra's reputation started in Amsterdam. At the 2003 High Times Cannabis Cup it took first place in the Indica category. A year later it returned and placed second in the same category.
Leafly records both results in its entry for the cultivar. Leafly also traces the name to the CIA's Project MKUltra, the program behind the LSD experiments T.H. Seeds references.
The line also produced a second winner. Cannatonic, a cross of MK Ultra and G-13 Haze, took third prize in the Sativa seed category at the 2008 High Times Cannabis Cup.
A second run of wins from 2014 to 2016
The awards picked up again ten years later, this time in the U.S. and Spain. T.H. Seeds lists six more placings for MK Ultra across three years, split between judged categories and popular votes.
In 2014 it placed third in Indica at the Cannabis Cup in Denver and won the Indica category at the Social Clubs Barcelona competition. In 2015 it took first for Best Hybrid at the NW Cannabis Classic in Tacoma, third for Best Indica at the UCLA Cup, and first in the Barcelona popular-jury Indica category. A 2016 popular-vote win at the Spanish Social Clubs rounds out the list.
OG Kush on one side, G-13 on the other
The OG Kush half connects MK Ultra to the backbone of West Coast cannabis. Leafly traces OG Kush to Florida in the early 1990s and to Los Angeles in 1996, when Matt "Bubba" Berger brought it to grower Josh D.
That same parent turns up across modern California flower. OG Marker, for example, crosses OG Kush with Seed Junky Genetics' Permanent Marker. MK Ultra takes the older route, pairing OG Kush with G-13 for a cross T.H. Seeds classes as mostly indica.
What growers get from the seeds
T.H. Seeds lists an 8–9 week flowering period and yields of 350g or more per square meter. Plants reach 90–130cm, and Leafly describes a short stature that suits indoor rooms, with above-average yields.
The finished buds are tight, sticky and coated in resin. Leafly lists typical potency around 20% THC. T.H. Seeds calls out a piney flavor, and the company describes the high as euphoric and hypnotic, landing in happy, relaxed territory.
The seeds sell for €50 in packs of five or ten. That keeps MK Ultra in circulation as a regular-seed line, more than two decades after its first Cannabis Cup result.
