Oreoz is a hybrid from 3rd Coast Genetics, the Michigan breeder that also sells it as OOOZE. It crosses Cookies and Cream with Secret Weapon, and 3rd Coast dates its arrival to 2015.
The plant earns its name on sight. 3rd Coast describes a dark black-purple flower buried under thick trichomes, and the cross has since spread from Michigan to licensed farms in Canada.
Max Yields and the third coast
3rd Coast Genetics was founded in 2005 by a breeder who goes by maxyields. The name is a nod to the shores of Lake Michigan, which the company calls the 3rd coast. The company frames its work as a long hunt for rare traits in appearance and flavor.
OOOZE sits in the house catalog next to Pure Michigan, Tagalongz and Cadillac Rainbowz. Another Michigan program hit the podium the year before OOOZE arrived: Paris OG won the Indica category at the 2014 Michigan Medical Cannabis Cup for Oasis Medical Seeds of Flint.
Cookies and Cream meets Secret Weapon
The Cookies and Cream parent comes from Exotic Genetix, which built it from Starfighter and a GSC phenotype. According to Leafly, it won first place in the hybrid category at the 2014 Denver Cannabis Cup, a year before Oreoz showed up.
Secret Weapon, the other half, is a cross of Cheese Quake and White Widow. Put the two together and Oreoz pulls a modern cookie structure from one side and a Cheese and Widow backbone from the other.
3rd Coast lists the order as Secret Weapon by Cookies and Cream. Weedmaps catalogs the same pair, along with a string of street names: Oooze, Ooze, Ooz, Cream Cookiez and plain O.
Tall, lanky and black-purple in flower
3rd Coast describes Oreoz as a tree in the garden, tall and lanky with long branches. Weedmaps puts it at 3–4 feet indoors and 5–6 feet outdoors, with moderate difficulty and roughly nine weeks of flowering.
Yields run about 400–500 g/m² indoors and 500–600 g per plant outside. Weedmaps recommends 40–50% humidity in flower to keep mold away from the dense buds, which come in forest green with purple undertones and orange pistils.
Flavor sits in chocolate, diesel and earth territory with a cool menthol edge, per Weedmaps. The high leans relaxed, with hungry and tingly close behind in Leafly reviews, and a lab reading near 20% THC on that page.
Pure Michigan, Sub Zero and the Oreoz family
Oreoz became breeding stock. 3rd Coast crossed OOOZE 1.0 with Mendobreath F2 to build Pure Michigan, a cut it also tags as OOOZEBREATH. Leafly lists Pure Michigan and Sub Zero as known Oreoz offspring.
The cultivar also traveled north. Purple Farm, a licensed Canadian cultivator, carries Oreoz in its Desserts collection and credits 3rd Coast Genetics as breeder. It lists the cut as a balanced hybrid near 26% THC, hang dried, hand trimmed and slow cold cured.
That is a long run for a 2015 release: a Michigan breeder, a Denver cup-winning parent, a Michigan-named offspring and a Canadian farm still growing the original cross.
