Pacific Gas is an indica from Fog City Farms, the indoor grower out of Santa Cruz County, California. Fog City built it from Chem Dog and SFV OG Kush, two of the heaviest fuel lines in West Coast cannabis, and sells it as a top-shelf eighth.
The farm's own pitch is blunt. It calls Pacific Gas a heavy indica with full-body relaxation and intense effects, led by diesel up front and chem funk on the back end.
A family-run indoor farm in Santa Cruz County
Fog City Farms started in 2018, according to its Weedmaps brand listing, which describes it as an indoor farm focused on sustainability and terpene production. The crew is a team of central California locals, run largely by family and friends.
The company handles the whole chain in-house. In its own words, it grows, trims, packages and distributes everything under the label. Every jar carries flower grown in the Fog City facility, so Pacific Gas moves from plant to shelf without a contract grower in between.
The lineup is short. Fog City lists five 3.5g flower jars, a line of smalls called Foggies and a pair of pre-rolls. Pacific Gas sits in the flower section only, sold as a 3.5g premium indoor jar. Weedmaps calls it a staple of the lineup, built on an OG gas profile.
Chem Dog, the Grateful Dead bag seed
The first parent has one of the oldest backstories in modern cannabis. According to Leafly, Chemdawg came from what was thought to be Northern California bag seed picked up at a Grateful Dead show in Colorado. The breeder known as Chemdog has grown and passed it around since 1991.
The name started as two nicknames for the same bud, Chem and Dog bud, and the spelling drifted to Chemdawg as other growers ran it. Leafly credits it with Chem 91, Chem 4 and Chem Sis, and ties it to the roots of Sour Diesel and OG Kush.
That is the chem half of the Pacific Gas name, and the reason the cross reads as a direct line back to 1990s fuel genetics.
SFV OG Kush and the San Fernando Valley line
The second parent comes from Los Angeles. SFV OG, short for San Fernando Valley OG, is an OG Kush relative tied to Cali Connection. SFV OG Kush is its Afghani-crossed child, which pushes the plant toward the indica side.
Leafly lists SFV OG Kush as a heavy-handed indica with myrcene, caryophyllene and limonene up top. Pacific Gas carries the same three terpenes, per Fog City, just in a different order: myrcene, limonene, caryophyllene.
SFV OG Kush has been a busy parent. Its known offspring include Tahoe OG and Fire OG, two more OGs from the same branch that Pacific Gas pulls from.
Where Pacific Gas lands on the shelf
Put the parents together and the result is predictable in a good way. Chem Dog brings the old-school chem line, SFV OG Kush brings the Afghani weight, and Fog City runs it indoors where it controls the finish.
Fog City lists myrcene as the lead terpene, which fits an indica with SFV OG Kush in the pedigree. The effect is heavy and body-first, exactly how the farm pitches it, and Weedmaps tags it relaxed and sleepy.
