White Runtz is a phenotype of Runtz, the Zkittlez × Gelato hybrid, sold under the Cookies banner. Its name comes from a coat of white trichomes heavy enough to make the buds look dusted with snow.
Weedmaps counts it among the few official Runtz phenotypes Cookies carries, alongside Runtz OG, Pink Runtz and Devine Runtz. Rapper Nero is credited with the White Runtz phenotype.
A phenotype of the original Runtz
The parent cross is the same one behind Runtz. Weedmaps traces the original to Ray Bama and his partner Nick, who crossed Cookies' Gelato genetics with Dying Breed Seeds' Zkittlez. The crew soft-launched Runtz at the December 2017 Emerald Cup in Santa Rosa with three pounds of flower, 1,000 t-shirts and five models.
Seedfinder lists White Runtz under Cookie Fam Genetics and describes it as a unique phenotype of the original Runtz. That breeder cut has not been released as seed or clone, and several seed banks sell their own versions under the name.
Runtz went on to become Leafly's 2020 Strain of the Year, two years after Gelato took the same title in 2018.
Cookies, Yung LB and Nero
When the crew's boutique growers could no longer keep up with demand, Runtz officially joined the Cookies lineup in 2018. Cookies has kept its Runtz offerings fairly minimal, with only a handful of phenotypes under the official umbrella.
Music carried the name. Rapper Yung LB coined the catchphrase "Runtz yo life up" and spread the strain through his lyrics. Nero, the rapper credited with White Runtz, soon added lyrical support of his own.
Ray Bama told Weedmaps that a new strain needs innovation to last. In 2022 he said he expected another five to ten years of Runtz dominating the market.
Frost, color and growth
Leafly lists White Runtz as a Gelato × Zkittlez hybrid with striking white trichomes. Weedmaps describes pale green and purple flower that can disappear beneath that frost. Seedfinder notes tight, spade-shaped buds that run deep green, sometimes with purple and pink hues. It also puts the breeder cut at up to 24% THC.
Leafly rates the plant hard to grow. It stays short to medium in height, especially in soil, and gives a medium yield. Flowering takes 8–9 weeks, and Seedfinder puts the breeder cut at about 68 days.
Reported effects open euphoric and playful before the body side takes over. Leafly reviewers most often call it tingly, relaxed and euphoric, and Weedmaps adds giggly and creative. Weedmaps lists THC in the 20–30% range.
Leafly names caryophyllene as the dominant terpene, followed by limonene and linalool. Seedfinder lists the plant as suited to indoor, outdoor and greenhouse growing.
White Runtz × Hollywood and other crosses
Cookies also used White Runtz as a parent in its own seed line. White Runtz × Hollywood, a feminized release sold in 6-seed packs, paired it with Hollywood, itself a cross of Runtz and Lemon Cherry Gelato. The seed listing described White Runtz as a heavy candy profile with an extra hit of gas. That pack has since been discontinued.
