93 Boyz is a Chicago cannabis brand co-founded by musician and activist Vic Mensa and launched in Illinois in 2022. The company calls itself Chicago's first Black-owned cannabis brand and pairs top-shelf genetics with a stated mission of giving back to the neighbourhoods it comes from.

Founders and launch

Vic Mensa was born and raised in Chicago and built the brand around that city rather than a national roll-out. He co-owns the company with Preston Oshita, the rapper who records as Towkio. 93 Boyz reached shelves through licensed Illinois production partners rather than a cultivation complex of its own, working with the aeroponic grower aerīz on its first products, and the launch pre-rolls landed at Dispensary33 in Andersonville and the West Loop and at Mission in South Chicago and Calumet City.

Products

The catalog runs across five formats: 3.5-gram flower, 0.75-gram pre-rolls, 1.5-gram infused blunts, vape cartridges in half-gram and one-gram sizes, and 100-milligram edible packs made up of five 20-milligram gummies.

Strains

The strain roster rotates with each drop. Releases have included Jet Fuel, The Lotto, Pit Stop, Jump Start, Gary Payton OG, Jealousy Thin Mintz, Rainbow Belts, Gelonade, Peanut Butter Mintz, Bathing Grape, Blue Z, Caddi Rainbows, Caked Up Candy, Cereal Milk, Hot Chipz, Kept Secret, NYC Diesel, Papaya Syrup, Pineapple AK, Platinum Cookies, Pound 34, Purple Urkle, Slurricane, Strawberry Cough and Trophy Wife.

Books Before Bars

The brand's community arm is Books Before Bars, run with the Chicago bookseller Semicolon Books, which sends literature to people in prison. Mensa has described sending books himself since his teens, after seeing what reading material meant to an incarcerated friend.

Where to find it

93 Boyz sells through licensed Illinois dispensaries and publishes a live retail menu through iHeartJane rather than a fixed store list. The company also runs a separate merchandise store under the same name.
