Fig Farms is an Oakland indoor cultivator and breeder run by Keith and Chloe Healy, the husband-and-wife team who founded it in 2016. The couple owns 100% of the company, with no partners or investors, and grows under California license CCL18-0000807. Its own pitch is short: owner-farmed flower and in-house genetics for California and Illinois.
The run hasn't slowed. High Times picked Hijinx, an Animal Face x Rapper Weed cross, as a Strain of the Month in September 2026, three months after giving Fabulosa the same nod.
From a Sebastopol garage to an Oakland flower room
Fig Farms started in a garage in Sebastopol, Forbes reported in August 2023. The name comes from Keith's high school slang for cannabis, picked up near Figueroa Mountain in Santa Barbara County. After losing an earlier genetics collection, the Healys bred their own originals, starting with Purple Fig and Pink Fig, High Times reported in 2022.
Banana Fig changed everything. The Purple Fig x Banana Split cross took first place at the 2017 High Times NorCal Cannabis Cup. Keith told MJBizDaily in August 2026 that the win helped the couple secure their current cultivation facility the very next day. He also put a shelf life on trophies: "winning a competition is like throwing gasoline on a fire."
The Oakland building houses more than 300 mother plant varieties alongside grow rooms, offices and the breeding program, High Times reported. Forbes counted about 10,000 square feet of canopy and roughly 10,000 plants there in 2023.
Hundreds of seeds, a handful of keepers
Breeding drives the business. In 2022 Fig Farms popped about 500 seeds every 2.5 to 3 months, aiming for half proprietary genetics and half from outside sources, High Times reported. The team grows multiple plants of a single cross before anything reaches a shelf.
The pace has picked up since. GreenState reported in July 2026 that the crew flowers around 200 different plants for R&D roughly every other month, which works out to about 3.5 new varieties a day. In the same "Wavelengths of Weed" feature, chief operating officer Mike Doten described the Holy Moly! crosses as a way to see the cultivar on a different wavelength.
Strawberry Guava shows the patience involved. Keith bought the seeds at the Chalice Festival in 2015, and the keeper beat out roughly 700 phenotypes, with about 200 plants flowered out during selection, Leaf Magazine reported in June 2026.
Purple Fig, Holy Moly! and a 50-plus cultivar library
The family tree runs through Purple Fig. Banana Fig is its daughter, and Holy Moly!, a Banana Fig x Animal Mints cross, is its granddaughter. Figment pairs Purple Fig with Animal Mints 199 #4, and White Nectarine crosses Purple Fig with Satsuma. Blue Face, the blue phenotype of Face Off OG x Animal Mints, was hunted from seed in-house.
The strain library lists more than 50 active cultivars, from '91 Bacio and City Drifter to Kronuts, Momochi and Zeclair. Animal Face, another Face Off OG x Animal Mints selection, anchors a line of its own: Animal Runtz, Lemon Cherry Face and Hijinx all descend from it.
Fig Farms credits outside breeders by name. Archive Seed Bank's Rainbow Belts 3.0 sits behind Blue Face Rainbow Belts and Z Type-S. GM-OG is listed as a Seed Junky cross. Umami Seed Co's Zabuza turns up in Fabulosa, International Orange and Momochi, and Top Dawg Seeds' 3 Chems anchors Chems and Cherry.
Emerald Cup, Cannabis Cup and Budtenders' Choice wins
The trophy run hit full speed at the Emerald Cup awards on May 14, 2022. Animal Face took first place in indoor flower, and Holy Moly! won the Indoor Flower Breeder's Cup, Cannabis Business Times reported. Keith called California "the epicenter of the cannabis culture universe" after the win. High Times ran a Fig Farms cover story in its August 2022 issue.
Blue Face took over in 2023. It won Best in Show and first place in indoor flower at the Emerald Cup, per Forbes and the company's strain library. At the High Times Cannabis Cup SoCal People's Choice edition that summer, Blue Face won indica flower and Animal Face won hybrid flower, Hall of Flowers reported.
Illinois added its own trophy. In November 2023 Fig Farms announced that Blue Face Live Rosin had taken first place for solventless concentrates at the High Times Cannabis Cup Illinois. In December 2023, Leafly's Budtenders' Choice Awards named Holy Moly! the top strain in California for the year.
California, Illinois and roughly 500 storefronts
Fig Farms entered Illinois in June 2022, MG Magazine reported. By August 2023, Forbes placed it among the top five flower companies in California by sales for the first quarter of that year, with inventory presold to about 500 dispensaries. Forbes and Hall of Flowers both counted Arizona as a third market that summer.
The lineup grew past jars in August 2023, when Hall of Flowers reported the first Fig Farms pre-rolls, single-gram joints rolled from the house cultivars. UpNorth Distribution moves the flower across Northern California and the Central Valley, GreenState reported in July 2026. The company's Fig Finder map tracks the stores that carry it.
Fabulosa, Strawberry Guava and Hijinx in 2026
The press kept rolling in 2026. Leaf Magazine named Strawberry Guava its Strain of the Month in June 2026 and reported 33% total THC. On June 12, 2026, High Times picked Fabulosa, a cross of Umami Seed Co's Zabuza and the in-house Dark Karma, itself Bodhi's Strange Love x Dutch Treat. It shipped in Fig Farms' holographic boxes.
On August 4, 2026, MJBizDaily quoted Keith on what awards do for sales: a quick pop that burns out unless the flower stays consistent. In September 2026, High Times added Hijinx to its Strains of the Month. Fig Farms flower sells in California and Illinois, and the Healys still own all of it.
