Seed Junky Genetics is the San Fernando Valley breeding house behind Wedding Cake, Jealousy and Permanent Marker, Leafly's Strains of the Year for 2019, 2022 and 2023. Founder JBeezy and partner Wes Vazquez built it into a genetics-licensing company, and in 2026 it is handing its library to exclusive partners in Arizona, Illinois and Michigan and to medical markets in Germany and the UK.
JBeezy, Wes and a former rocket factory
JBeezy is a nom de guerre from the illicit days, and Seed Junky started small in Southern California long before the licensing deals. He co-founded the company with Wes Vazquez, who handles logistics while JBeezy runs the breeding.
By late 2022 Seed Junky had roughly 100 employees across three states, working out of a Northridge home base in the San Fernando Valley that once housed a rocket factory. The company now describes itself as an intellectual property and brand licensing business with more than two decades in plant genetics.
JBeezy has always pitched the lab work as the edge. "Nobody is spending $100,000 on labs to know what's in our seeds like us," he told Leafly.
Wedding Cake and the cake-and-mint era
Wedding Cake made the name. The Triangle Kush and Animal Mints cross, also called Triangle Mints #23 and sold as Pink Cookies in Canada, was Leafly's Strain of the Year in 2019.
The same families kept paying out. Kush Mints pairs Animal Mints with Bubba Kush, and Ice Cream Cake crosses Wedding Cake with Gelato #33. LA Kush Cake and Purple Octane sit near the top of a catalog of hundreds of strains.
Jealousy and The Minntz
Jealousy tied Seed Junky to Cookies. In 2018 JBeezy crossed Sherb bx1 with the Gel Bern cut of Gelato #41 from Cookies breeder Jai, known as Jigga. When he brought the result to Berner, the Cookies co-founder said it smelled "like Gelato times 100," and he named it Jealousy because he knew people would be jealous when they saw that pheno.
It debuted in California adult-use stores in late 2019 as a lead flavor for The Minntz, a Cookies and Seed Junky collaboration brand. Batches have tested as high as 30% THC, it took second place for ice water hash at the Emerald Cup, and Leafly named it Strain of the Year for 2022.
The Minntz name came back in April 2026. JBeezy announced an exclusive partnership with Michigan-based HNG to distribute MINNTZ products, with more than 20 strains planned across California, Michigan, New Mexico and Florida, from B-52 and Grape Slurpz to Giraffe P, Blue Zushi, Larry Legend and Rainbow Marker.
Permanent Marker and the Doja wave
JBeezy worked on Permanent Marker from 2019 to 2021, building it as (Biscotti S1 x Sherb Bx1) x Jealousy F2. The keeper announced itself: "It just stood out with candy-gas. It smoked the best," he said.
The cut had already circulated as Adios MF and Gunnpowwder before Ryan of Doja Pak found the name that stuck and ran a global marketing push behind it. Doja sold $1,000 clones in January 2022 and again in Hollywood that December, and Seed Junky followed with feminized seeds in May 2023, including crosses like Scratch and Sniff and Banana Cream Cake x Permanent Marker.
"The guy made the biggest wave with it," JBeezy said of Doja's founder. Growers in California, Washington, Florida, Michigan and New Mexico put it on shelves, and Leafly named it Strain of the Year for 2023, back to back with Jealousy.
Glass House and Trulieve
The licensing model took shape in August 2022, when Seed Junky signed a genetics and nursery partnership with Glass House Brands. Seed Junky agreed to breed exclusive strains for Glass House Farms, Forbidden Flowers and Field Extracts, with the first due in dispensaries in early 2023. Starting that fall, California growers could buy Seed Junky clones straight from Glass House's 5.5-million-square-foot SoCal farm.
Florida came through Trulieve. JBeezy first met the Trulieve team at the Emerald Cup in 2019, and the partnership put Seed Junky genetics into Trulieve's Modern Flower line, grown at Trulieve's facility under the Seed Junky team's eye. The first Florida drops in July 2023 were Creamy Z, Pineapple Fruz, Blackberry Pie and Purple Push Pop; until then the genetics had been sold only in California, Michigan and New Mexico.
The 2026 licensing map
The state deals follow one template. Seed Junky supplies the genetics, operating protocols and quality standards, and in Arizona and Illinois a single licensed partner handles cultivation, processing, packaging and statewide distribution.
In March, Halo Cannabis, a longtime Arizona cultivator and distributor co-founded by George Roop, became the sole authorized Seed Junky operator in the state.
June brought two more deals: Green Success Group, which operates in Germany, the UK and Australia, is taking the brand into medical cannabis markets in Germany and the UK with Zebra Ztripez, Mango Fruz and Scented Marker, and Echelon Grow, founded by Chris Mayer, became the exclusive Illinois operator. "Expansion into Europe is an important step for Seed Junky," JBeezy said, framing it as part of a bigger long-term vision for the brand.
