Seed Junky Genetics is a California cannabis breeding company whose cultivars are among the most widely planted in the legal market. It is led by the breeder known publicly as JBeezy, who works with co-owner Wes Vazquez. The library is built on the cake and mint families, and it now reaches growers mainly through licensed nursery and multistate partnerships rather than seed sales alone.
JBeezy and the breeding team
Glasshouse Brands credits JBeezy and Vazquez with building the Seed Junky strain library.
The cake and mint families
Those plants became parents for a long run of collaborative crosses carrying the same cake and mint character.
Jealousy
Jealousy was named Leafly's Strain of the Year for 2022. Leafly credits Seed Junky with creating it by crossing Sherb bx1 with the Gel Bern cut of Gelato #41, bred by Cookies breeder Jigga; Sherb bx1 itself came from Sunset Sherbert crossed with Animal Cookies. The name is a phonetic nod to Gelato.
Glasshouse partnership
On August 24, 2022, Glasshouse Brands announced a California genetics and nursery partnership with Seed Junky. Under it, Seed Junky breeds and selects strains exclusively for Glasshouse Farms, Forbidden Flowers and Field extracts, and California cultivators can buy Seed Junky clones directly from the company's SoCal farm. The exclusive strains began reaching licensed California dispensaries in early 2023.
Trulieve and Modern Flower
Trulieve brought Seed Junky genetics to Florida through its Modern Flower brand, with its cultivation team working alongside Seed Junky breeders on new varieties as well as established ones. JBeezy has said the relationship started at the Emerald Cup in 2019. The genetics had already been available in California, Michigan and New Mexico.
Seeds, clones and flower
Seed Junky has sold collectible seed packs and branded finished flower alongside the licensed-nursery route. The nursery arrangements are what moved the genetics out of a seed-and-clone trade and into large-scale commercial cultivation.
