Snowtill is a San Francisco indoor cannabis cultivator using no-till living soil. Co-founders Joseph Snow and Nate Landau run it as a closed-loop operation with zero synthetic inputs, under California cultivation license CCL18-0001463. The brand focuses on small-batch flower, terpene disclosure and biological cultivation.
Joseph Snow and Nate Landau
Snow is chief executive of Snowtill Inc. Landau is co-founder and leads cultivation. Both are publicly active as industry advocates for living-soil growing, and the company presents their partnership as the origin of both its method and its name.
What no-till means
No-till cultivation keeps the same soil beds through repeated cycles rather than discarding or heavily disturbing them. Cover crops, mulch, microbes and other soil organisms cycle nutrients for plant roots. The name combines Snow's surname with the no-till method. Indoor environmental controls add precision while the soil stays biologically active.
Inputs and OCAL certification
Snowtill uses no synthetic pesticides or nutrients, and its closed-loop system produces no toxic waste. The company is OCAL certified, California's comparable-to-organic cannabis program; cannabis cannot use the USDA Organic seal.
Flower and terpene labeling
Snowtill prints total cannabinoids, THC and terpene totals on its labels to shift attention beyond THC alone. The cultivar list includes Animal Crossing, Barney's Bakery, Galactic, Gouda, Grapejack, James OG, Key Lime Slushie, Mint Pie, Moon Boots, Pie Scream, Screamberry, Snowstorm, Strawberry Milk, Truffle Fries and Jealousy Runtz.
Piescream
Piescream was bred by Mean Gene of Mendocino from Wedding Pie crossed with Cherry Limeade F5 and Gelato 33. Snowtill cultivates it under its own license, and it has become the cultivar most closely identified with the brand.
Competition results
At the 2024 California State Fair Cannabis Awards, Snowtill's Piescream took six gold or silver medals, including gold for highest-testing pinene. At the 2025 California Cannabis Awards, Animal Crossing took silver for CBDa and bronze for pinene in indoor flower.
Collaborations and availability
Snowtill has worked with extract partners including Friendly on products made from its flower. Distribution is concentrated in California, with retail availability listed through Weedmaps.
Permanent beds and indoor controls
No-till describes how the soil is maintained between cycles, while indoor refers to the controlled growing environment. Snowtill combines both: biologically active beds remain in place as lighting, irrigation and climate are managed indoors. Cover crops, mulch and soil organisms help cycle material. These methods explain the cultivation system but do not make every harvest identical or exempt a batch from California testing.
OCAL and label language
OCAL is California's comparable-to-organic program for cannabis, which cannot carry the federal USDA Organic seal. Certification applies to a documented operation and standard; it should not be expanded into unsupported health or purity claims. Snowtill's labels emphasize total cannabinoids, THC and total terpenes so buyers can view more than one potency number. The batch label remains the source for the actual tested values.
Cultivars and breeder credit
Piescream is associated with Snowtill's cultivation, while its lineage is credited to breeder Mean Gene of Mendocino. Cultivating a selected cultivar and breeding its genetics are separate roles. The same principle applies across the wider lineup: Snowtill grows and selects flower under its system, and breeder attribution should be retained when known. A menu name alone cannot establish the breeder or exact phenotype.
Awards and collaborations
Piescream earned multiple cannabinoid and terpene medals at the 2024 California State Fair Cannabis Awards, and Animal Crossing placed in 2025 California Cannabis Awards categories. These are results for submitted products and measurements in those competition years. Extract collaborations made from Snowtill flower also involve a separate licensed processor. Neither an award nor a partner logo means every later batch or format received the same result.
