Vertical Cannabis is a seed-to-sale operator in St. Joseph, Missouri: one dispensary at 908 N Belt Hwy and the cultivation and manufacturing plant that fills much of its shelf. The site trades as Vertical Premium Cannabis. Christopher McHugh co-founded the company and runs it as president and CEO. The store opens 8am to 10pm every day and serves medical and adult-use customers under Missouri dispensary license DIS000011.
The house line is the point. Vertical selects, grows, packages and sells its own flower and concentrates, then sets them beside other Missouri labels.
Chris McHugh and the St. Joseph build
Vertical started cultivation and manufacturing in St. Joseph in 2021, with McHugh as CEO and co-founder and Tammy Puyear as chief marketing officer. The Choose Saint Joseph announcement that April described a 64,000-square-foot building, 30,000 square feet of flowering canopy at full buildout and about 10,000 square feet running at the start across two bloom rooms. The manufacturing side was set up for concentrates and cartridges.
The plan paired the plant with a flagship store from the start. The 2021 announcement put the St. Joseph dispensary at early summer and said it would carry Vertical's own brands next to infused products from other Missouri makers.
McHugh also sits on the board of MoCannTrade, the Missouri Medical Cannabis Trade Association, as a government-affairs advisor. The association lists him as president and CEO of Vertical and describes the business as craft cultivation, a manufacturing lab and a dispensary in St. Joseph.
Purpose-built rooms instead of a retrofit
McHugh told security integrator Kenton Brothers that the plant was built from scratch for LED lighting, not retrofitted into a warehouse with 30-foot ceilings and high-pressure sodium lights. Kenton Brothers installed access control, video and intrusion systems across the grow site and the dispensary, including explosion-proof cameras in an extraction booth on a two-week deadline.
The about page puts the facility at 62,000 square feet and describes small-batch runs through selection, cultivation, packaging and sale. The store's find page sums up the pitch: hand-crafted from seed to sale in Missouri. Vertical words it as quality, small-batch craft weed.
What the house brand covers
Vertical's own products carry the store name. Its Weedmaps menu lists Vertical 1g pre-rolls, Vertical eighths and Vertical concentrates, with weekly deals built around them: seven house pre-rolls for $70 on Sundays, four house eighths for $99 on Mondays.
The site ran its own version on August 28, 2026: buy two Vertical concentrates, get a third for $0.01. Menu categories cover flower, pre-rolls, vaporizers, concentrates, edibles, topicals, tinctures and accessories, and Weedmaps counted 1,246 items to Leafly's 1,298. The site also runs a text list for daily deals.
The rest of the St. Joseph shelf
The roster is broad for a single-store operator, and Leafly has carried the menu since 2021. Selling to other Missouri retailers
Vertical wholesales the same small-batch cannabis to other licensed retailers and routes those inquiries through its St. Joseph office at 816-396-8573. The wholesale page, last updated November 24, 2025, pitches dispensaries directly. Weedmaps places the dispensary across from East Hills Shopping Center and describes the company as a seed-to-sale grower serving medical and recreational customers.
How the store reads on the platforms
Leafly lists cash and debit payment, an ATM, ADA access, a veteran discount and a daily 10% break for students, industry workers and seniors. It shows a 4.2 rating from 36 reviews and dates Vertical's presence on the platform to 2021. Weedmaps adds a loyalty program and a happy-hour window on drinks.
Hiring and the 2026 picture
On August 28, 2026 the homepage listed daily 8am to 10pm hours, online ordering for pickup and the concentrate deal; the strains page, updated May 1, 2026, sorts the selection by indica, sativa and hybrid. The careers page takes resumes without posting titles and frames the company around respect, quality and community. That form takes a name, an email address and a resume file.
