Wana Brands is a Colorado cannabis-edibles company best known for vegan gummies. Nancy Whiteman co-founded the business in Boulder in 2010, and its homepage has carried the line "Elevating Edibles Since 2010" ever since. On October 9, 2024, Canopy Growth confirmed that Canopy USA had acquired 100% of Wana.

Founder and early history

Whiteman started Wana in a Colorado kitchen and built it into a widely distributed edibles brand, keeping the company's base in Boulder and describing it as a grassroots, woman-founded business with deep ties to that community. Joe Hodas is president of Wana Brands.

Ownership

Canopy USA's acquisition closed on October 9, 2024 and covered Wana Wellness LLC, The CIMA Group LLC and Mountain High Products LLC — 100% of the outstanding equity in Wana. The same announcement confirmed that Canopy USA had acquired roughly 75% of Lemurian, Inc., the owner of Jetty.

How the gummies are made

Wana sets its gummies with fruit-derived pectin rather than gelatin, which keeps them vegan and, the company says, melt-proof up to 175 degrees Fahrenheit. It uses only organic sweeteners, at about three grams of organic sugar per piece, and adds more than thirty terpenes across the range. Wana calls this its four pillars, under the line "Wana does things the right way, not the easy way."

The three gummy lines

Formulations run from straight THC through THC and CBD ratios of 1:1, 2:1, 5:1 and 20:1, and 1:1:1 blends that add CBG.

Quick and the Azuca partnership

The Quick line, and one of the Optimals formulations, is built on a nano-encapsulation technology from Wana's technology partner Azuca, which is what separates it from the Classic gummies.

Where you can buy it

Marijuana-derived THC remains federally illegal and cannot be mailed or carried across state lines, so Wana's dispensary products are bought in person in the state where they are sold. The site carries a dispensary locator rather than a checkout for those products.

Hemp products

Alongside the dispensary business, Wana sells hemp-derived formulations direct to consumers through a separate site, Wanderous.

Foundation

Whiteman created the Wana Brands Foundation, a $50 million charitable organization focused on food security, housing, domestic violence, LGBTQIA+ rights and racial justice in cannabis.
