Gelato 33 is Society C's solventless press of the cut most people know as Larry Bird. It is one of the most consequential plants in modern California breeding, and pressing it into hash rosin strips away everything except what the resin was already carrying: cream, gas and a dessert weight that shows up immediately.
Sunset Sherbet into Thin Mint Cookies
Its parents are Sunset Sherbet and Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies. Gelato came out of a shared bank of Bay Area genetics worked between the Cookie Family, the Sherbinskis side and cultivator Mario Guzman, before those parties went their separate ways.
The number is a basketball reference. Thirty-three was Larry Bird's retired Celtics jersey, and the numbering convention stuck across the whole Gelato line. The flower side of it lives on the Gelato #33 strain page, and the mother is covered on Sunset Sherbet.
The plant that rebuilt the California menu
Count the dessert cultivars on any current California shelf and most of them run back through Gelato within two generations. Wedding Cake, Ice Cream Cake, the entire Cake family, half the Runtz descendants. Gelato 33 specifically became the cut breeders reached for when they wanted density, resin and sweetness in one package.
What circulates under the name today is a widely traded legacy cut rather than a current release from the original house. That is how the Bay Area works: the strong cuts leave home and keep going. The Sherbinskis catalog shows where one branch of that lineage went.
What hash rosin means on this label
Hash rosin starts from separated resin rather than whole flower. Ice-water hash is washed, dried, then pressed under heat and pressure, with no hydrocarbon solvent anywhere in the chain. The result concentrates what the trichome heads held and leaves the plant material behind.
This jar reads hash rosin rather than live hash rosin. The word live specifies fresh-frozen starting material, so a cured-material press like this one gives a rounder, deeper expression instead of the sharper top end fresh-frozen delivers. Neither is better; they are different reads on the same plant.
Society C out of Michigan
Society C runs out of Orion Township, Michigan under parent company Natrabis, making flower, live hash rosin disposables and concentrates for the Michigan market. The concentrate line presses from the company's own indoor flower rather than buying input on the open market.
The brand has taken High Times Cannabis Cup People's Choice awards and placed at the Michigan Cup in 2023 and 2024, with first-place finishes at Best in Grass in 2024 and 2025. That is a competition record built on the flower and the press together, which is the harder version of the job.
How it smokes and what to put beside it
Expect the Gelato signature to come through concentrated: sweet cream up front, a gas edge behind it, and a body-forward settle that suits the back half of a day. Lower dab temperatures hold the cream; heat pushes it toward the gas end.
