The grip is the design
Most small bongs are straight tubes, which means holding one is a matter of pinching the neck between two fingers and hoping. The hourglass narrowing gives your hand somewhere to sit, so the piece is held rather than balanced.
That sounds cosmetic and is not. A bong you can grip properly is a bong you are less likely to knock over on a couch or drop while passing it — the two ways cheap glass usually dies.
Angled slits, not straight ones
The percolator is a showerhead with its slits cut on an angle rather than straight down. Angling them sends the bubbles out with some rotation instead of straight sideways, which keeps the water moving across the whole chamber rather than churning in one spot.
More of the water doing work means more contact between smoke and liquid, and it is contact that pulls the heat out. In a 7-inch body, where there is almost no distance for the smoke to cool on its own, that is the entire game.
Who it's for
This is the travel piece for someone who refuses to give up a percolator to get portable. It is short enough to pack, cheap enough that losing it is annoying rather than painful, and it takes both flower and concentrate.

Keeping it clean
Percolated glass holds resin in places a paper towel will never reach. Dump and refill the water after every couple of sessions, and give the chamber a proper soak in isopropyl and coarse salt once a week. Plug the joint and mouthpiece, shake it in short bursts rather than one long rattle, and rinse with warm — not hot — water so the glass never takes a thermal shock.
