Acai Berry, also sold as Acai Berry Gelato, is a sativa-dominant cut of Gelato from Mario "Mr. Sherbinski" Guzman. Leafly lists it as Thin Mint Cookies × Sunset Sherbet, the same cross behind every Gelato phenotype.
Sherbinskis still sells it as Big Buds flower, with one 3.5g listing testing at 31.3% THC.
Mario Guzman's garage-era Gelato hunt
Guzman started growing in San Francisco in the early 2000s. He credits SB420, which took effect in 2004, with creating the legal room for growers like him to start in their garages. Sherbinskis was born in the city's Sunset District and is now based in Los Angeles, with a farm in Mendocino County.
Guzman worked with Jigga on the original Gelato genetics. Steep Hill Labs co-founder Addison DeMoura ran the lab analysis during that first pheno hunt. LA Weekly reports that Gelato went on to win strain of the year twice.
His approach stays small. He has said he pops only 20 or 30 seeds per cross and keeps three or four strains in play at once. He maintains around 100 mother plants, and his recent pheno hunts run with partners Higher Function and Culture Cannabis.

Leaf Magazine lists Sunset Sherbet and Gelato among Guzman's creations, with Bacio, Mochi and Acai Berry Gelato as named phenotypes of Gelato. LA Weekly names Acai alongside Bacio, also known as Gelato #41, as one of his Gelato cuts.

Sunset Sherbet and the Pink Panties thread
The Sherbet half is Sunset Sherbet, which Leafly lists as Girl Scout Cookies × Pink Panties from Mr. Sherbinski. He bred it to carry the Cookies lineage forward, and Leafly lists it as an indica-dominant hybrid at around 18% THC. Leafly also counts Lemon Cherry Gelato among its descendants, next to Gelato itself.
Weedmaps' product listing names Thin Mint and Sherbet as Acai's parents, with Pink Panties and Sunset Sherbet further up the tree. That Pink Panties thread runs through every Gelato cut, since Sunset Sherbet is half of the original cross.
Where most Gelato cuts sit near the middle, Acai leans sativa. Both Leafly and Weedmaps list it as a sativa-dominant hybrid.
Deep purple, resin-heavy and daytime-leaning
Leafly describes Acai Berry Gelato as a deep purple plant dripping with trichomes, with notably resinous, sticky flowers. It lists THC as high as 32%, with limonene as the dominant terpene.
Reviewers most often report feeling happy, talkative and uplifted, and call the effects mostly energizing. Weedmaps users add focused and creative, and the Sherbinskis listing calls it a lovely daytime smoke.
On the palate, reviewers pick up sweet cream and berries. The strain holds a 4.7-star rating across 44 Leafly reviews.
