Fantasma is Maven Genetics' cross of Runtz with the brand's house indica Black Diamond X, released as the first limited edition in Maven's Artist Series with packaging art by James Haunt. Where It Comes From
Maven is a California brand with a working phenotype-selection program and a catalog organized around a handful of repeat parents. Fantasma arrived as the debut release of the Artist Series, a program pairing original visual art with a limited cannabis drop.
Maven has said it worked with James Haunt during a pheno-hunt to land on a cut reflecting his headspace while painting, which makes the collaboration more than a label swap. The art is the collaboration, though — Maven holds genetic authorship.
The release did not end there. Fantasma still appears in Maven's active strain library under indica, so the cultivar outlived its limited-edition packaging by a wide margin.
The Cross
Maven's own strain library lists Fantasma as Runtz x Black Diamond X and files it under indica. Runtz is widely associated with Zkittlez and Gelato parentage and brings sweet fruit, candy, cream and gas. Black Diamond X is Maven's own line — XXX OG x Black Diamond OG — which the brand calls a hard-hitting, deeply relaxing indica with earth, musk and diesel underneath.
That parent anchors a whole Maven sub-catalog: RS-X pairs it with RS-11, and Chroma, Black Lotus and Apples and Diamonds all run it as one half of the cross.
The finished profile has real structure to it rather than adjective spray. Fresh pine, fuel and candied citrus open the inhale, then warm, woody, bitter spice — cinnamon and clove is the comparison Maven draws — settles over a creamy exhale. The evergreen-and-gas entrance comes from the Black Diamond X side; the citrus candy and the cream come from Runtz.
Appearance is the other half of its identity. Maven describes royal violet buds under thick, frosty white trichomes, presented against the Artist Series' cosmic theme. Buds run dense and compact, consistent with the OG-heavy parentage, and color varies with environment and finish.
Maven positions it as powerful and harmonious, easing the body toward deep relaxation without tipping fully sedative, with a gentle cerebral lift on top. Potency figures circulating for Fantasma, including numbers in the low thirties, come from specific tested releases and are not a property of the cultivar.
What It Left Behind
Maven's copy calls the XXX OG parent award-winning without naming a competition, category or year, which is marketing language rather than a result anyone can check. There is nothing to claim there.
Its real footprint is the Artist Series itself. Fantasma is release 001, the drop that established the format of pairing a pheno-hunted limited run with a named visual artist — and it is the reason the rest of the series had a template to follow.
