Saturn OG is a hybrid from Maven Genetics, the San Fernando Valley cultivator, built on classic OG Kush genetics. Maven calls it an award-winning strain that sat dormant for five years before the brand brought it back.
The return came with a jump in potency. Maven's Weedmaps listing shows 37% THC and Maven says it has grown the strain above 30% THC since its return. Leafly also lists THC above 30%.
A classic OG line back in rotation
Leafly credits Maven as the breeder and traces Saturn OG to classic OG Kush genetics, listing OG Kush as its parent line.
That heritage shows in how the flower presents. Leafly lists myrcene as the dominant terpene, with limonene and caryophyllene behind it. The flavor leans toward the OG profile, with diesel and citrus up front and a spicy pepper edge.
Saturn OG also has a long track record in Maven's lineup. Forbes named it in 2023 among the cultivars in the Maven catalog, alongside Black Diamond X, Triple X, Affogato and Peach Creme Gelato.
Black Diamond X is a useful comparison. Maven built that indica from XXX OG and Black Diamond OG and pitches it to OG lovers, which shows how much of the house catalog still runs on OG-family genetics.
Dense, dark green buds under heavy frost
Maven's listing describes dense, sticky, dark green buds covered in long, curly orange pistils. An icy sheet of trichomes coats the surface.
Maven grows Saturn OG indoors across its San Fernando Valley sites, where all flower is hand-trimmed and cured for two weeks, according to Forbes.
Forbes reported in 2023 that Maven runs three cultivation sites with 1,600 lights and harvests indoors six times a year.
A fast start that turns heavy
Maven describes an immediate energetic blast that shifts into deep relaxation. The brand frames the arc as a spacey haze at first, then a sedative heaviness as the session goes on.
Weedmaps lists the reported effects as energetic, euphoric, focused, relaxed, sleepy and uplifted. Leafly's top effects lean calmer, ranking sleepy, relaxed and uplifted first and describing the strain as mostly calming.
Taken together, the two listings describe a hybrid that opens with a lift and ends on the heavier side. Both classify it as a hybrid rather than an indica.
Seeds and the Maven breeding vault
Maven also sells genetics directly. GrowDiaries lists Saturn OG as feminized photoperiod seeds from Maven Genetics, alongside other Maven cultivars such as Orange Truffle Souffle, Oro and Lipstain.
Those releases come out of a large testing program. Forbes reported 140 cultivars in Maven's breeding vault in 2023, with new work taking at least eight months to develop. Some genetics have stayed in the library for more than a decade.
Galactica OG and a second generation
Saturn OG has already been used as a parent outside Maven. Leafly lists Galactica OG as a child strain, produced by Palomar Craft Cannabis from Saturn OG and Jedi Kush.
Leafly describes Galactica OG as an indica-dominant hybrid with heavy physical effects. Its terpene profile is led by myrcene, the same top terpene Leafly lists for Saturn OG.
For Maven, Saturn OG connects the brand's roots to its current catalog. Co-founder and CEO David Bosworth began cultivating in 1993, the operation expanded to multiple sites in 2005, and the flagship Tarzana store opened in 2022.
